William H. Bourne (1841-1910)
Civil War Soldier
William enlisted in Company "L", 14th Tennessee Infantry at Camp
Duncan, near Clarksville, on May 31, 1861, as a private. He was
discharged due to disability at Gordonsville, Virginia, on August 4,
1862. The surgeons certificate says the disability is due to
insufficiency of the heart. His rank at discharge was private.
William’s regiment was deployed to Virginia shortly after its
formation in May 1861, and first saw action at the battle of Seven
Pines, May 31 and June 1, 1862. It participated in the Seven
Battles Before Richmond (Oak Grove, Beaver Dam Creek, Gaines Mill,
Savage’s Station, Glendale, Malvern Hill) on June 25 through July 1,
1862.
