Sergeant Samuel J. Shepard was inducted into the
army in 1950. He was sent to Korea and fought in the 5th Regimental
Combat Team, 24th Inf. Division. He received the Presidential Unit
Citation. He received this for extraordinary heroism in action against
an armed enemy. He accomplished his mission under extremely difficult
and hazardous conditions. He received a Korean Service Medal and the
Korean Service United Nation Medal with 4 bronze fivepointed Service
Stars representing participation in campaigns. He was in the tank
division. He served in Korea for ten months and ten days. He
earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably dicharged from the
army in 1952.
