Rev. Lovelace enlisted as a private April 15, 1861, in Company G, 14th Tennessee Infantry.  He was wounded three times before his parole May 6, 1865.  He was Chaplain of Forbes' Bivouac, CSA, and gave a prayer when Clarksville welcomed its troops back from the Spanish-American War.

"Rev. N. O. Lovelace, age 66 years, was born and reared in Lauderdale County, TN.  He died February 13, 1910, at his home on Spring Creek.  He is survived by four children: one son, Rev. B. H. Lovelace, Pastor of Belmont Baptist Church in Nashville, and three daughters, Mrs. Jodie Howard, Mrs. T. J. Munford, and Miss Fortie Lovelace.  A Confederate Soldier.  He married Miss Sallie Whitfield in 1868.  He was a member of Forbes Bivouac.  By his request, he was buried in his Confederate gray suit with gray blanket wrapped around him.  Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery."
