Three of Ambrose Dudley and Sara Whitfield Bourne's sons
served the Confederacy. All survived the war, lead long and
productive lives, and now rest in Greenwood Cemetery in
Clarksville.

Joseph enlisted as a private in Company "A", 49th Tennessee Infantry,
November 29, 1861, at Camp Duncan, near Clarksville. He was
captured along with his regiment at Ft. Donalson on February 16,
1862. He was imprisoned at Camp Douglas, Illinois, then sent to
Vicksburg, Mississippi, to be exchanged, September 26, 1862. He
was discharged as a private at Camp Cummings, near Mobile, Alabama,
March 20, 1863, since his one-year enlistment had long since
expired. Additional information from the records of Forbes
Bivouac, UCV, in Clarksville, says that he was wounded and captured at
Farmington, Tennessee in 1863. He was released June 5, 1865.
