JOE CLIFFORD SISK
Korean War Soldier

Joe Clifford Sisk was the first from Montgomery County to die in the Korean War.  He was 18.  Joe, born 14 October 1931,  was the only son of Bailey Eugene Sisk and Frances Josephine Payne.  He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1949 and joined the Army in late summer. He was serving in Japan at the outbreak of the Korean War with the 1st Cavalry Division.  After the unit deployed to the Korean Peninsula, he fought in multiple engagements with the 5th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division.  He died in a small unit engagement on the northwest corner of the Pusan perimeter on 15 August 1950.  His unit was probably opposed by the 10th and 11th Divisions of the North Korean Peoples Army. PFC Joe Sisk's body was returned to Clarksville, TN and burial was 28 June 1951 in Greenwood Cemetery.  Three sisters were Stella Sisk Hawkins, Connie and Ida.
