WAR OF 1812 SOLDIER

JESSE COOKSEY

Jesse Cooksey born in Va. 1793 died 1866. "When seventeen years old participated in the War of l8l2. He married Sarah Heatman who was born 1803 and died 1882. One of their children was Enoch N. Cooksey who was born Dec. 6, 1841 and married Mary Dority who was born July 18, 1851. (Goodspeed’s History of Tennessee, page 1020)

I remember Enoch N. Cooksey or Mr. Newt as he was called. He was a veteran of the Civil War. Mary Dority was the daughter of John and Emily (Tolar) Dority. Emily Dority is buried in the Trice-Leigh Cemetery. May 11, 1822- Jan 6,1893. She married John Dority 1843. His footstone is there but the head stone is gone.

Enoch N. and Mary (Dority) had seven children: Virginia who married
Jim Foster; Lilly who married Will Parker; Frances who died unmarried;
Newt died unmarried; James Calvin died unmarried, Tim and Ernest S
married but died without issue. (from my Tolar records. AWD)
