Harry Hunt was born in 1831 near Palmyra, TN. In November, 1861, he joined Capt. Peacher's company "E" of the 49th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. He saw his first action at Fort Donelson in February, 1862 along with his regiment. He was sent ot Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois and spent seven months there as a prisoner of war. The 49th Tennessee was exchanged at Vicksburg, MS in September, 1862, ending this chapter of their history. Harry's final action was at Port Hudson, Louisiana where he had been left behind due to wounds received earlier in the siege. He was paroled due to his condition on July 9th, 1863 after the surrender of the Confederate forces at Port Hudson. He was at this time, a member of Capt. Samuel Whiteside's 48th Tennessee company.  He returned home to Palmyra, where he made an attempt to return to his pre-war vocation of blacksmithing.  His wound, though healed, became worse with age and he was left to performing light work around the community.  He died at home on September 11, 1911 in the Hackberry community.
