DAVID KELLY MURFF
VIETNAM WAR SOLDIER
After college David enlisted in the Navy. He was stationed at the U.S.
Naval Training Center , San Diego, California. October 16, 1967 he was
appointed Radioman Third Class at the Naval Communication Station,
Norfolk, Virginia. David made the rank of RadiomanSecond Class on Nov
16, 1968. David reported to Little Creek VA., forthree weeks of
Counterinsurgency School before transferring to Commander, Military
Assistance Command, Saigon, Vietnam. From February 1969 to January 1970
David served in the Republic of Vietnam with the U.S. Naval Advisory
Detachment, Da Nang.
On January 7, 1970, the Department Of Defense awarded David the
Joint Service Commendation Medal, for meritorious service in the
performance of his duties during the period February 1969 to
January 1970 while serving with the United States Naval Advisory
Detachment at Da Nang, Republic of Vietnam. During this period, Petty
Officer Murff distinguished himself as an extremely capable
administrator. As assistant to the Administrative Officer, he was
responsible for the internal distribution of unclassified and
classified material, preparation of messages , accounting and
allocation of personal and maintenance of all Army and Navy directives.
In addition, Petty Officer was responsible for the
coordination of air transportation for personnel of all branches of the
Armed Forces and for Vietnamese military and civilian personnel. His
close liasison with administrative personnel of the detachment's
Vietnamese counterpart organization fostered harmonious relationships
with the Vietnames. Radioman Second Class Murff's distinguished
performance of duty represents outstanding achievement and reflects
great credit upon himself and the military service.
