Services for Barney W. Slayden, 46, vice president and head of First America Nation­al Bank's correspondent bank division, were held Tuesday, September 5 at Finley  Dorris and Charlton Funeral Home in Nashville.

The Rev. Robert H. Spain officiated, and burial was in Harpeth Hills cemetery. Mr. Slayden, a native of Dickson County, died in Vanderbilt Hospital Saturday after a heart attack. He was a graduate of Char­lotte High School, the Andrew Jackson University Law School and the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University.

He was a veteran of World War II, receiving the Disting­uished Flying Cross, Air Me­dal with two bronze clusters, and two Bronze Stars after serving in the American and Asiatic Pacific theaters.

He joined First American in January 1948, serving in the finance department until 1953 when he transferred to the cor­respondent bank division.

He was elected assistant cashier in 1955, assistant vice president in 1957 and vice president in 1962. He became head of the division in September 1971.

Slayden was a member of the American Institute of Bank­ing and was active in the Am­erican and Tennessee bankers associations. He was a mem­ber of the Corinthian Lodge No. 414, F and AM.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Mathis Slayden, a son, Michael B. Slayden, all of 6349 Torrington Road, Nash­ville; his mother, Mrs. Bruce W. Slayden of Vanleer, and a brother, Murrell Slayden, Huntsville.Y OF
