Ada Maurine Schmittou, 64, of Route 1, Palmyra, died Wednesday in her residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Carman Baptist Church with the Revs. Garner Swift and Billy Bateman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Palmyra.<>Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at McReynolds-Nave Funeral Home.

Agnes Coleman

 March 4, 1980

 

ERIN--Agnes Schmittou Coleman, 84, died Tuesday at her residence in Erin.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Nave's Erin Chapel by the Rev. Erwin Gaines and the Rev. David Greenfield. Burial will be in Coleman Tatum Cemetery.

Mrs. Coleman was born Sept. 24, 1895 in Montgomery County, daughter of the late John D. Schmittou and Mary Ann Jones Schmittou.

Survivors are her husband, James H. Coleman, Erin; a son, Raybon Coleman, Erin; four daughters, Mrs. Frank Palazola, Erin, WS: Murrell Hall, Vanleer, Mrs. Frances Allen, Clarksville, and Mrs. Charles Wagner, Marina, Calif.; a brother, Charlie Schmittou, Clarksville; two sisters, Mrs. Carney Greene, Marion, and Mrs. Irvin Coleman,

Clarksville; and 19 grandchildren,36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Allen Green, Henry Clay Coleman, Willie P. Coleman, Bobby Ellis, J.D. Schmittou and Carney Boone.



 

 

Mrs. Schmittou (Bertha Josephine)

March 13, 1977

Mrs. Bertha Josephine Schmittou, 61, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was a bookkeeper for Schmittou Motor Co., and resided at 26 Covington St., St. Bethlehem.

Services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Tarpley's Chapel by the Rev. George Gracey. Burial will be in Greenwood.

Mrs. Schmittou was born in Pontiac, Mich., Dec. 19, 1915, daughter of the late Arthur Putman and Anna Dexter Putman. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors are her husband, Anderson V. Schmittou; three sons. Morrell M. St. Bethlehem; Danny R. Clarksville; and Anderson V. Schmittou Jr., Vanleer; one brother, Clyde Putman, Jacksonville. Fla.; a sister. Mrs. Loretta Bear, San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren.

Blanche Deason

Aug. 6, 1977

Services for Blanche Deason, 84, of Clarksville, Tennessee, were held Saturday, August 6, 1977, in the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Lexie Freeman and Bro. Carroll Hickman with burial in Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Deason, died August 4, 1977, in Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of William Schmittou and Ella Porch. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Dickson, Tenn.

Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Sara Thweatt, Clarksville, one sister Mrs. Rena Williams, Vanleer, Tenn. and one grandchild.

 

 


 

Charlie Schmittou

 Dec. 18, 1986

Charlie Burney Schmittou, 83, 1764 Elmwood Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1986, at Trinity Hospital, Erin. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Marion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clifton Green officiating. Burial will be in Marion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be until the hour of the service at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home.

Schmittou was born in Montgomery County on July 29, 1903, the son of John Dillard Von Schmittou and Mary Ann Jones Von Schmittou.

He was a retired shipping clerk for Acme Boot Co. and was in the U.S. Army from 1924-27. He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Aldina Clark Schmittou, Clarksville; three sons, Charlie James Schmittou, Dickson, and John Schmittou and Irvin Anderson Schmittou, both of Clarksville; four daughters, Myrtle Greene, Cumberland Furnace, and Claudell Ludwig, Shirley Robertson and Virginia Brake, all of Clarksville; 15 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Schmittou, David Schmittou, Johnny Schmittou, Frank Crotzer Jr., Eddie Burchett, Gary Ussery, Doyle Robertson, Scott Coggins, Wade Sensing and Jim Cato.

 

 


 

Earl Schmittou Sr.

May 17, 1984

 

Funeral for Earl Schmittou Sr., 76, who died on Thursday, were held Saturday in the Tailor Funeral Home chapel in Dickson with Jim Reynolds and Donnie Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery.

Schmittou was a barber, farmer and retired school bus driver of the Slayton community of Dickson county.

He was a member of the Church of Christ and served on committees for Farmers' Home Administration and Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Dickson County.

He was born in Dickson County to Rofus B. and Mamie Carroll Schmittou, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Hughes Schmittou; a son, Earl Schmittou Jr., Stayton community; a sister, Mrs. Maude Jarman of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.


Etta Frances Schmittou

 

Services for Miss Etta Schmittou, age 54, of Route 2 Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee were held Sunday, Oct. 5, 1980 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. John Gordon, with burial in the Waynick Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

<>Miss Etta died Thursday October 2, 1980 in a local hospital. She was a native of Dickson County daughter of the late Mr. Harry P. Von Schmittou and Ruth Boaz VonSchmittou She was a member of the Slayden Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include three brothers, Gary VonSchmittou of Livonia, Mich., Charles P. VonSchmittou of Phoenix, Arizona and Thomas E. VonSchmittou Cumberland Furnace, Tenn., one sister Mrs. Alice Derry of Germany.

 



Mrs. Sensing (Eunice Schmittou)

1966

Mrs. Eunice Schmittou Sensing, 94, died at 5 p.m. Friday at Queen City Nursing Home after an illness of 3 1/2 years.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Tarpley Funeral Home by the Rev. Melvin Brooks. Burial was in Marion Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was born in Dickson County October 22, 1872, daughter of the late James O. and Elizabeth Batson Schmittou.  She was the widow of Jerry S. Sensing to whom she was married April 8, 1893.

Survivors are five sons, V. E., Oscar, John, and Homer. all of Clarksville, and Howard  Sensing, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter. Mrs. Etham Morrison, Hickory Point, Tenn.; a brother. J. B. Schmittou. Clarksville; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Morrison, Clarksville, 33 grandchildren and 75 great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Marion Methodist Church.

 


Forrest Schmittou

Forrest Schmittou, 86, 821 Central Ave., died Friday at his home following a brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sykes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. C.G. Sego officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is after 10 a.m. today.

<>He was born Nov. 10, 1896, in Montgomery County. His parents were the late Peter Von and Ellie Nora Schmittou.

He was a member of the Baptist Church, a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include one brother, Griff Schmittou, Clarksville; and one sister, Agnes McCauley, Clarksville.

Mrs. Redden (Geneva Schmittou)

June 6, 1979

DICKSON — Geneva Schmittou Redden, 59, died Tuesday morning in Goodlark Hospital here after an illness of several weeks. She was retired hairstylist and resided In Dickson.

Services will be conducted at I p.m. Thursday at Dickson Funeral Home by the Rev Stanley Yates. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Redden was born in Dickson County, daughter of the late Sterling Vaughan Schmittou and Effie Silmore Schmittou.

Survivors are her husband. Gerald Redden; a daughter, Beverly Dodd, Dickson; two grandchildren; two brothers. J.C. and Melvin Schmittou, Detroit, Mtch.; five sisters: Laura Mae Brake, Helen Milam. Kate Anna Chappell, all of Dickson, Lois Thomason, Old Hickory, and Vivian Landers, Granite City, Ill.

 




Von Schmittou (Harry Perkins)

October 13, 1971

Harry Perkins Von Schmittou, age 77,of Slayden, died Sunday of a heart attack at a Dickson Hospital.

<>Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Slayden Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Howard Holman and the Rev. Minor E. Powers officiating. Burial will he in the Waynick Cemetery in Dickson County.  <>

Mr. Von Schmittou is survived by two daughters, Miss Etta Frances Von Schmittou, Slayden, and Mrs. Alice S. Derry, Fayetteville, N.C.; three sons, Gary N. Von Schmittou, Detroit; Charles P.  Von Schmittou, Akron, Ohio, and Thomas E. Von Schmittou, Clarksville; one brother, Fred Von Schmittou of Mason, Mich. and 10 grandchildren.

The body will be at his home on Leatherwood Creek near Slayden until the hour of service. Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson is in charge of the arrangements.

 


Howard Sensing

Sept. 12, 1982

Howard B. Sensing, 67, died Sunday in Memorial Hospital.

<>Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sykes Chapel with burial in Marion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Revs. John Casey and Ken Bolin will officiate.

He was a resident of Bagwell Road and a retired construction employee.

A native of Dickson County, he was born July 1, 1915, a son of the late Jerry C. and Eunice Schmittou Sensing.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy L. Zuspan Sensing; two sons, James T. Sensing, Clarksville, and Howard Wayne Sensing, Germany; three daughters, Victoria Gilkey, Nortonville, Ky., Mrs. Jerry Millwright, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Marvin Foster, Missouri; three brothers, V.E. Sensing, J.R. Sensing and Oscar Sensing, all of Clarksville; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Zuspan, Keith Zuspan, Carl Blass, Mike Blass, Mark Blass, Jack Harper, Robert Holt and Albert Miller.

In lieu of other remembrances, the family asks that donations be made to the Sango United Methodist Church Building Fund, the Cancer Society or the Tuberculosis Society.

October 8, 1973

Irvin Thomas Sensing, 76, retired farmer of the Cunningham Community, died Monday night in General Care Convalescent Center after a long illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Marion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Paul Ford. Burial will he in the church cemetery.

Mr. Sensing was horn in Montgomery Co., son of the late McKendree G. and Mary E. Schmittou Sensing.

Survivors are two brothers.  Theodore, Cumberland Furnace, and Walter Sensing, Clarksville; a sister. Mrs. Edgar Seals, Cunningham: several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ben, J.W., and Wade Sensing; William Waynick, Miles Suiter, Fred Johnson.

The body is at the Nave Clarksville chapel until the hour of service.

 

 


J.B. Schmittou

Oct. 28, 1968

James Brake Schmittou, 86, died this morning in Clarksville Nursing Home following a two-year illness. He was a retired farmer of the Indian Creek Community.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McReynolds Funeral Home by the Rev. Melvin Brooks. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Methodist Church cemetery.

Edward Proctor

Feb. 12, 1986

Edward Earl Proctor, 62, Route 12, died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McReynolds-Nave Chapel with the Rev. R.B. Mackens officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Friday at McReynolds-Nave Funeral Home.

Proctor was born in Dickson County on Nov. 6, 1923, the son of Ed and Ina Mae Schmittou Proctor.

He was a retired foreman for Boot-Ster Manufacturing Co. Inc., and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ader Earline Claxton Proctor, Clarksville: a daughter, Jean Rittenberry, Clarksville; and a grandchild and two step-grandchildren.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.




Mrs. Baggett (Effie)

Effie Baggett, 82, Route 2, Cumberland Furnace, died Monday night in Memorial Hospital alter an extended illness.

Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tarpley's Chapel by the Rev. William Yarbrough and the Rev. Garner Swift. Burial will be in Baggett's Cemetery in the Hackberry Community.

Mrs. Baggett was born April 4, 1897 in Montgomery County, daughter of the late Francis Schmittou and Tannie Barton Schmittou. Her husband, Lehman Baggett, preceded her in death. She was a member of Locust Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors are three brothers, Leon Schmittou, Clarksville, Thurman Schmittou, La-Connor, Wash., and Luther Schmittou, Cumberland Furnace; two sisters, Rillie Sutter and Mary South, both of Clarksville.

Pallbearers will be Donald Schmittou, Ronald Schmittou, Bill South, Gardner Sutter. Jeff Elltott, and Charles Morrison.

 


ELIZABETH FOSTER

Services for Elizabeth Schmittou Foster were held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home with David Holder conducting the service. Burial was in Schmittou Cemetery.

Mrs. Foster died Wednesday in Detroit, Michigan. She had married Earnest Frederick Foster who died in 1978.

Mrs. Foster is survived by a son, Fred Foster of Detroit; a brother, Charles Ewing VonSchmittou of Cumberland Furnace; a sister, Norma Baker of Detroit.




Mrs. Schmittou (Janie A.)

April 26, 1978

Janie A. Schmittou, 82, died Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock in Nashville Care Health Center following an illness of seven years. She was a resident of 3904 Robinson Road, Nashville.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hoesch-Patten Funeral Home here. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Mrs. Schmittou was born in Dickson County, daughter of the late Andrew Browning and Elizabeth Ellen Browning. She was a member of Bethel Primative Baptist Church.

Survivors are her husband, Ebert Schmittou; four sons, Harry and Larry Schmittou, Nashville; John Schmittou, Springfield; Leo Schmittou, Clarksville;  a daughter, Gladys Huffines, Detroit, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.




John Sensing

Oct. 18, 1983

John R. Sensing, 78, of 884 Cumberland Drive died Tuesday at St. Thomas Hospital .

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tarpley's Chapel with the Rev. Joe Kanipe officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Tarpley's Chapel until the hour of the service.

A native of Montgomery County, Sensing was a retired employee of the Clarksville Street Department and was a member of the Cumberland Drive Baptist Church, Berern Sunday school class.

He was born March 17, 1907, the son of the late Jerry Slayden and Eunice Schmittou Sensing.

Survivors include his wife Katie Heflin Sensing; two sons, Roy W. and H.L. Sensing; a daughter, Nell Chester; and two brothers, Oscar and V.E. Sensing; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Sensing's grandsons will be the Pallhearers.


Mr. Thomason (Lester)

May 17, 1978

DICKSON—Services for Lester Thomason, 52, service technician for TWR Customer Service, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Dickson Funeral Home by the Rev. Erwin Gaines. Burial will be in Schmittou Cemetery.

Mr. Thomason, a resident of Old Hickory, died Wednesday in Madison Hospital after an extended illness.

He was the son of Hartwell Thomason and Kitty Hamilton Thomason. He was a Navy veteran.

Survivors in addition to his parents, are his widow, Lois Schmittou Thomason; two sons, John and Jim Thomason, Old Hickory; a brother, Eugene Thomason, Clarksville; two sisters, Doris Davis, Cumberland Furnace, and Frances Proctor, Cunningham.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.


Schmittou (Levi)

Feb. 9, 1973

<>Funeral services for Levi Schmittou, 87, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at McElvoy Funeral Home at Paris, Tenn. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mr. Schmittou died Friday night in a Paris Nursing home following a long illness.

He was born in Montgomery Co., son of the late Fredrick (Doe) and Newell Green Schmittou. He was a retired L&N employee and had lived in Paris a number of years.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Ella Baggett Schmittou: a son, Otis H. Schmittou, Birmingham,Ala., two grandchildren; three brothers. Wesley. Route 3, Cumberland City; Will, Dickson, and Albert  Schmittou, Wayne Co. A sister, Mrs. Alethia Baggett, Wayne Co.: three-half-brothers, Thurman,





Lola Sensing Seals
Oct. 12, 1982

Lola Seals, 70, Route 2, Cumberland Furnace, died Monday at Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Marion United Methodist Church with the Revs. Erwin Gaines and Paul Ford officiating. Burial will be in Marion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Seals was born June 3, 1912, in Montgomery County. She was the daughter of McKendre Gardner and Mary Schmittou Sensing who are deceased.

She married James Edgar Seals Oct. 7, 1931, in Cumberland Furnace. She was a housewife and a member of Marion United Methodist Church, Marion United Methodist Church Women's Organization, and Montgomery County Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Ruth Weaver of Henderson, Ky., Dorothy Suiter of Palymra, and Linda Talbert of Knoxville; two brothers, Walter Sensing of Clarksville, and Theodore Sensing of the Marion community; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Suiter, Mark Weaver, Glyn Lang, James Mischel, Fred Johnson, Ben Sensing, Lester Sensing and Jeffrey Trotter.

Visitation was scheduled for after 10 a.m. today at McReynolds-Nave Funeral Home.




Louis F. Schmittou
6-21-1975

Services for Louis F. Schmittou, 57, of Detroit were held Wednesday, June 25 in the chapel of Dickson Funeral Come. Burial was in Vanleer Cemetery. Robert Cullom conducted the services.

Mr. Schmittou died at his home Saturday, June 21. He was the son of Ernest and Ellen Baker Schmittou.

His survivors include his wife. Mrs. Daisy Schmittou; two sons, Ruben Schmittou of Vanleer and Jerry Schmittou of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy King of Michigan; a brother, Norman Schmittou of Detroit; five grandchildren

Dickson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

<>Mrs. Maggie Dawson Schmittou, 80, died Thursday in Allen Park, Mich.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Tarpley's Chapel by the Rev. L. T. Richardson and Rev. Garner Swift. Burial will be in Harvey Cemetery.

Mrs. Schmittou was born in Montgomery County Jan. 24, 1890, and lived here until 1936 at which time she moved to Michigan. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Murphy Dawson. Her husband, Richard Schmitt died in 1935.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Recie Koystu, Allen Park, Mich.; a brother, Dillard Dawson, Cumberland Furnace,




Mary Coleman
 Feb. 24,1985

Mary Louise Coleman, 79, Route 1, Box 106, died Sunday after an extended illness at the home of her daughter, Kimble Boone.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. yesterday at McReynolds-Nave Chapel, with the Revs. Paul Sitton and Randell Rogers officiating. Burial was at Coleman-Tatum Cemetery.

Mrs. Coleman was born in Dickson County on April 27, 1905, daughter of Stewart Schmittou and Lena Bell Trotter.

She was a housewife and a member of Stoney Point Freewill Baptist Church. She was the widow of Cook Coleman.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimble Boone and Susie Suiter, both of Clarksville; a brother, Outlaw Schmittou, Palmyra; five sisters, Bertha Schmittou, Miami, Fla., Delma Harvey and Williebea Hayes.



Ollie Schmittou Foster
Nov. 1, 1980

Services for Mrs. Ollie Schmittou Foster, age 88, of Nashville. Tennessee. were held Monday. November 3, 1980 at 1:00 p.m from the chapel of the Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home conducted by Elder J R. Huff, with burial in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Services were under the dtrection of Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ollie Foster died Saturday, November I, 1980 at her home. She was a native of Dickson County daughter of the late Thomas R. and Mary Jane Edwards Schmittou. She was the wife of Asa Dotson Foster a former minister of 69 years. Mrs. Foster was a member of the primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband Mr. Asa Dotson Foster of Nashville. Tenn., two daughters: Mrs. Clara Campbell of Nashville. Tenn., and Mrs. Evelyn Fluff of Hendersonville, Tenn.; three sons: Harry D. DICKSON- Nannie Schmittou Osbourn Potts, 79, of Nashville, died Tuesday at her home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Dickson Funeral Home Chapel. Ministers Melvin Brooks and Leon Norris will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

<>She was the daugnter of the late Griff C. Schmittou and Emma Noah Parrotte Schmittou. Her husband P.D. Potts died April 14, 1978.

She is survived by one daughter, Rachel Johnson, Clarksville; one brother, Andrew V. Schmittou, Clarksville; five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.




Ora Allen
March 3, 1983

Ora Frances Allen, 60, 2515 Timberwood Dr., died Thursday at 73 Dixon St., after an extended illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sykes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Billy R. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Tatum-Coleman Cemetery in Houston County.

Mrs. Allen was born July 8, 1922, in Houston County. She was the daughter of the late James Herman and Agnes Schmittou Coleman A housewife, she was married to the late Charles Woodrow Allen. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include two sons, Charles L. Allen, Clarksville, William H. Allen, McEwen; a brother, Raybon Coleman, Erin; three sisters, Mary Hall, Slayden, Demple Paloza, Erin, and Myrtle Wagner, Mariana, Calif.; four grandchidren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Carl Ellis, Homer Sutter, J.D. Coleman, Burney Green, Henry Clay Coleman and Carney Boone.

Visitation will be until the hour of service at Sykes Funeral Home.



Mrs. Ora Lee Davis

Ora Lee Davis, 69, Route 1, Cunningham, died Saturday in General Care Convalescent Center, after an extended illness.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at McReynolds-Nave Funeral Home by the Rev. Lloyd Ashby. Burial will be in Harvey Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis was born March 7, 1907 in Dickson County, daughter of the late Cave and Mary Schmittou Bearden. She was a member of Louise United Methodist Church.

Survivors are her husband, Marvin Davis; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Eva Mae Revard, Clarksville; Mrs. Betty May, Memphis; a brother. J. 0. Bearden, Cunningham; a sister. Mrs. Lora Baggett, Cunningham.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Patricia Mary Margaret Von Schmittou, 122 Hogin Road, Dickson, died September 8 at her home. She was 29 years old and the wife of Robert Von Schmittou who survives.

Services were Saturday, September 10 in the Chapel of the Dickson Funeral Home with Harlan Watson officiating and burial in the Edwards Cemetery.

A native of Port Huron, Mich., she was the daughter of Arthur Robert Green, Dickson, and the late Mary Booker Green and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

William G. Schmittou

William G. Schmittou, 43,Penn Central railroad conductor who lived in Detroit, Mich., died Saturday after a short illness.

<>Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Schmittou Cemetery, Slayden, Tenn., by the Rev. Howard Holman. Nave's Clarksville Chapel will be in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schmittou was born in Dickson Co., March 27, 1927, son of Mrs. Myrtle Schmittou Endicott, Detroit, and the late William T. Schmittou. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

Survivors in addition to his mother are a daughter. Miss  Marguerite Schmittou, California: a brother. Roy Schmittou. California.

A native of Dickson County. she was born Feb. 5. 1899, a daughter of Peter Von and Elite Nora Foster Schmittou. She was married to Anquis McCauley who died Dec 5. 1961.

She was a member of the Tarsus United Methodist Church and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son: Ralph McCauley, Palmyra: two daughters, Betty Bowles Haddock and Ellie Seay, both of Clarksville, a brother. Graf Schmittou, Clarksville; and four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Dewayne McCauley, Gene Mahon, Pete Schmittou, Ronnie Schmittou, Tommy Schmittou. Mark Briggs. Steve Ferrell. Dale Priddy and Kevin McCauley.

Carl Schmittou, 63, Route 2, Cumberland Furnace, died Saturday after a brief illness at the home of his sister, Mrs. Willie B. Hayes,Cumberland Furnace

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Marion United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Paul Ford officiating. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m.today at McReynolds-Nave Funeral Home.

Schmittou was born Oct. 16, 1920,in Dickson County, son of Stewart Schmittou and Lona Bell Trotter.

He was a food service operator.

Survivors include one brother,Outlaw Schmittou, Palmyra, and six sisters, Ovalee Fuller, Louise Coleman and Bertha Schmittou, all of Clarksville, Belma Harvey and Mrs. Willie B. Hayes, both of Cumberland Furnace, and Ailene Dreaden, Erin.

Pallbearers will be Thomas McCollom, Howard Capps, Jeff Trotter, David Ferrell, Wendell Britt and Jerry Ferrell.


Luther Schmittou

Luther Schmittou, 87, Route 12, died Thursday at his home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McReynolds-Nave Chapel with the Rev. William Yarbrough officiating. Burial and full military rites will be at Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation win be after 10 a.m. today until the hour of the service.

Schmittou was born in Tennessee on Aug. 29. 1902, the son of Doc and Tinnie Hardin Schmittou.

He was a retired farmer and sawmill worker. He served as a private in the Coast Artillery with the U.S. Army and was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Leon Schmittou, Clarksville; two sisters, Mary South and Billie Sutter, Clarksville: and two half-brothers, West Schmittou, Erin, and Will Schmittou, Dickson.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Services for Sterling Schmittou, 91, of Dickson, Tennessee, were held Wednesday, February 22, 1979 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home, conducted by Brother Jack Huff with burial In Edwards Cemetery Little Barton's Creek.

Mr. Von Schmittou, a retired farmer, died February 18, 1979 at the home of his daughter. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.

Services for Walter Estill VonSchmittou, 68, were held Sunday, May 8, 1977, in the Chapel of Dickson Funeral Home, conducted by Bro. David Huff with burial in Union Cemetery.

Mr. VonSchmittou of 102 Herman Ave. Dickson, died Friday, May 6, 1977. He was a retired steel worker and the son of Sterling VonSchmittou, and Effie Gilmore.

William Thomas Schmittou

William Thomas Schmittou, 73, died in Nashville Hospital Tuesday at 1:41 p.m.
after a long illness. He was a retired truck driver for American Motors in Detroit, and resided in Cumberland Furnace.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Nave Funeral Home, Erin, by the Rev. Billy Ray Bateman. Burial will be in the Schmittou family cemetery in Dickson County.

Mr. Schmittou was born in Dickson County, April 10, 1896; son of the late Thomas R. and Louella McClure Schmittou.

He was a veteran of World War1.

Survivors are two sons, William Geurin Schmittou, Inkster, Mich., and Fate Roy Schmittou, Renaldo Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Harry, Cumberland Furnace and Frederick Schmittou, Mason, Mich.

Mich.--Funeral services for Perry Schmittou, 42. were held 1 at 10 a.m. Saturday at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home at Taylor Chapel. Burial was in Parkview Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Schmittou died Thursday on the job while working as a mechanic for the Wolverine Equipment Co.

He was born in Dickson Co., Tenn., son of Mrs. Ora Ferrell Schmittou, Garden City, Mich., and the late Zinna Schmittou. He had lived in Taylor for a number of years. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was a veteran having served with the U.S. Marines.

Survivors in addition to his mother are his widow, Mrs. Sue Goode Schmittou three sons, Randy, David, and Terry Schmittou, Taylor; a daughter, Wanda Schmittou, Taylor; one grandchild; two brothers. Albert, Saginaw, Mich., and Ernest Schmittou, Garden City, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Helen Ridgeway, Garden City.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rebecca Sue Crockarell. 54, who died at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital following a short illness, will he conducted at 3 p.m. today at Tarpley's Chapel by Ed Van Hoosier, minister. Burial will be in Greenwood.

Mrs. Crockarell was born in Montgomery Co., Sept. 17. 1920. daughter of Mrs. Nannie Schmittou Osburn, Nashville, and the late Bracken Osburn. Her husband Duncan Crockarell, died in March of 1972. She was a member of Madison St. Church of Christ.

Survivors in addition to her mother are a son, Neil Crockarell, Nashville: a daughter. Mrs. Penny Darnell. Clarksville: a sister. Mrs. Edward C. Johnson, Nashville: three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William Gibbs, Meredith Haddock, Frank Hodgson, Howard Bouchette. Levi Simpson, Anderson Schmittou.




Mrs.Ruth Thomason

<>Services for Mrs. Ruth Thomason, 60, of Charlotte were held in the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home Friday, December 6. Burial was in Edwards cemetery on Little Bartons Creek.

Mrs. Thomason died Tuesday, December 4 in a local hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Nelse Thomason; one son, Franklin D. Thomason of Granite City, Illinois; five grandchildren; her father, Sterling L. Von Schmittou of Dickson; six sisters.

Sensing was born Oct. 25, 1902, in Montgomery County, son of Kenney Gardner Sensing and Mary Schmittou Sensing.

He was a retired supervisor of Bell Telephone Co., and a member of Marion United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Haynes Sensing, Clarksville; one daughter, Martha Cook, Kenner, La.; one brother, Theodore Sensing, Cumberland Furnace; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

William Edgar Bearden, 77, died Saturday at his residence Route 1, Cunningham after an extended illness. He was a retired carpenter.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Garner Swift and the Rev. Lloyd Ashby. Burial will be in the church cemetery, McReynolds-Nave Funeral Home.

Mr. Bearden was born in Dickson County Sept. 5, 1899, son of the late Cave and Mary Christine Schmittou Bearden. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Cora B. Bearden, whom he married March 18, 1922; three sons, Edwin W. and Henry A., Cunningham; William E. Bearden, Nashville; two daughters, Mrs. Frances Smith and Mrs Margaret Hankins. Cunningham ; a brother, James 0. Bearden, Cunningham; two sisters, Mrs. Herbert Bagget and Mrs. Marvin Davis, Cunningham; 13 grandchildren; one great- grandchild.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
