PERRY LEE HARNED
1. Perry Lee Harned, of Southside became city school superintendent before he was made TN Commissioner of Education during the governorship of Austin Peay.
2. In 1927 before his untimely death in office, Gov. Peay authorized a two-year normal school for TN to be situated in C’ville. Harned led the way for the school, which opened in 1929, to be named AUSTIN PEAY.
3. In the 1930’s when Austin Peay received state monies to erect the campus’ first female dormitory, it was named for Harned’s late wife, Myra McKay Harned.
