In the name of God amen, I William Mathis of the County of Montgomery and the state of Tennessee, being weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind & memory, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, do make & publish this my last will and Testamen t, in manner and form following, that is to say, first my will & desire is that after all my just debts is paid with such property as can be most conveniently spared, my wish is that all and singerly my property remain with my wife Sally Mathis for her us e and my children. That is to say John W. Mathis, Wilson J. Mathis, James Mathis, Sally Mathis & Martha Mathis. I wish this understood by all, that at the time of my son Johns coming of lawful age, that my property then be equally divided, and that the above named John Mathis have his equal share, the ballance to remian with my wife Sally Mathis for the purpose of raising my children and schooling of them, until they come of age, then to receive their parts first laid off to them, all but the land I now live on containing two hundred & twenty acres, which my will and desire is that my wife Sally Mathis have free & undisturbed privilege on, during her natural live, then my wish is that the above named land shall be sold and equally divided between my fiv e children above named. My wish is that my wife Sally Mathis and Benjamin Orgain senior manage this my last will & testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In Whitness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 5th of February 1824.
