Oscar L. Gafford

Oscar L. Gafford, 86, Indian Mound, died Monday, August 9, at Clarksville Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.  Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, at Anglin Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Brian Fyke officiating.  Burial was in the Rose Valley Cemetery, Indian Mound.  Born Oct. 5, 1895, in Stewart County, he was the son of the late Samuel H. Gafford and Annie Wyatt Gafford.  His wife, Mary Mann Gafford, survives.  Other survivors include a son, Herschel Gafford, Detroit, MI; a daughter, Nina Milliken, Dover; three stepdaughters, Jane Crockarell, Indian Mound, Jannett McDonald, Fredericksburg, VA, and Carolyn Conn, Miami, FL; three brothers, Buford and Clifton Gafford, both of Dover, and Clarence Gafford, Indian Mound; three sisters, Fannie Mae Legate, Dover; Maggie Lee, Clarksville; and Fronnie Heflin, Indian Mound; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.  He was a member of the Rose Valley United Methodist Church and a retired farmer.

(Note:  Oscar L. Gafford’s first wife was Lola Mae Wyatt, mother of his children Herschel Gafford, Nina Gafford Milliken.  Their daughter Beatrice Earline Gafford Mullins died at the age of 27 in 1947.  Lola Mae Wyatt Gafford was a daughter of Mandy Smith and Eli John Wyatt.)
