LOUISE WYATT COLLECTION
Maggie Wyatt Lewis
Dec 31, 1883 – Dec 6,
1924
Mrs. Maggie Lewis:
On Saturday night,
December 6, 1924, the angel of death
entered the home of Vernon Lewis and claimed for its victim his devoted
wife,
Maggie. She had been in bad health for
a long time, and was confined to her bed six months before her death.
She was born Dec. 31, 1883, being
40 years, 11 months, and
six days old; was married to Vernon Lewis in Oct 1903; to this union
four
children were born - Mrs. Herbert Hogue, Earl, Nellie May and Thomas
Lewis the
youngest of whom is 6 years old.
She also leaves a father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. E. J.
Wyatt; and a little grandson; three sisters - Mrs. Hallie Smith,
Boynton, FL;
Mrs. Lola May Gafford, Cub Creek; and Mrs. Eula Gladys Lewis, Indian
Mound.
She professed faith in Christ in
early life and joined the
Methodist Church and lived a Christian life until God saw fit to call
her
home. She prayed to get well, but near
the last she knew she was going to die, and said there was not a thing
in her
way. She was laid to rest in her
father's graveyard Dec 11.
Maggie was born, raised and
married near Big Rock, but a few
years after their marriage they moved to Clarksville and lived there
until four
years ago, they moved to Boynton, FL, and lived there until her death.
Many of her friends in Florida
and Clarksville sent
beautiful flowers to accompany her remains to the grave.
They came home once while in Florida on a
visit, but this time sister came home it was oh so sad.
The voice we loved is still. We
loved her, yes, we loved her, but God
loved her better. All
was done for her
that friends and physicians could do, but God said come from this world
of sin,
sorrow and suffering to the land of endless day.
(Note: Maggie Wyatt Lewis was the granddaughter of Eli John W. Wyatt, one of the Wyatt twin boys raised in Stewart County by Charles and Rachel Atkins Roper.)
