Lula Gertrude Givens Norfleet Halliday

Mrs. Lula Gertrude Halliday, 85, died this morning at the home of Mrs. Addie Reese,
532 Clark Street, Clarksville, after an illness of a year.  Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Milligan Funeral Home, Dover, by the Rev. Ralph Pennington.  Burial will be in the Hall Cemetery, Indian Mound.  Mrs. Halliday was born in Stewart County April 4, 1883, daughter of the late James and Martha Edwards Givens.  She was twice married, first to George H. Norfleet, who preceded her in death.  She later married Claude P. Halliday, who also preceded her in death.  She was a member of Rose Valley Methodist Church.  Survivors are a son, Hubert Norfleet, Indian Mound; three daughters, Mrs. Lula Mann, Mrs. Beulah Smith, and Mrs. Lois Peacher, all of Indian Mound; two sisters, Mrs. Penny Smith, Indian Mound; and Mrs. Fannie Cherry, White Bluff, TN; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  Grandsons will be pallbearers.

(Note:  Lula’s first husband, George H. Lewis, was the father of the children mentioned in the obit.  He died in 1909 about the time their fourth child was born.  Lula’s father also died in 1909 and in 1910, Lula was living with her widowed mother in Stewart County.)
