Richard C. Atkins

Richard C. Atkins, 89, died Saturday afternoon at Trigg County Hospital, Cadiz, KY, after a three-week illness.  Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Tarpley's Chapel, with the Rev. H. R. "Sonny" Wise.  Full military rites will be at Blooming Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  He was a resident of Bumpus Mills and was a retired civil service employee.  He was born in Stewart County Feb 24, 1890, son of the late Emmett Atkins and Rhoda Wyatt Atkins.  His wife, Lillian O'Brian Atkins, died in 1977.  Survivors are a son, Charles E. Atkins, Bumpus Mills; a daughter, Lucille Dunn, Bumpus Mills; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.  Mr. Atkins was a veteran of World War I and served in Belgium, England and France.  He was a member of the American Legion.

(Note:  Richard C. Atkins was a gg grandson of Rev. War soldier Lewis Atkins.)
