Talmadge Smith Atkins

Talmadge Smith Atkins, 85, Old Russellville Pike, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.  The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Mount Zion United Methodist Church with the Revs. Melvin Brooks, Paul Ford and Mark Pafford.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Sykes Funeral Home and today from 2 p.m.until time of the service at the church.  He was born on May 2, 1916, in Dover, son of Alfred and Bessie Lehman Atkins.  Mr. Atkins was a retired electrician and a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge 505 and Scottish Rite.  In addition to his wife, Anna Mae Harmon Atkins, survivors include sons Billy Atkins, Clarksville; Bobby Atkins, Hendersonville; David Atkins, Old Hickory; Jackie Atkins, Charlotte, NC; brothers, Archie Atkins, Southside; Dorris Atkins and Frank Atkins, both of Clarksville; sisters, Evelyn Fain, Shiloh; Christine Pitts, Clarksville; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Wayne Pitts, Stephen Anderson, Brian Atkins, John Atkins, Michael Atkins, Scott Atkins, Terry Fain and Danny Atkins.  Memorials should be made to Mount Zion United Methodist Church.

(Note:  On his paternal side, Talmadge Smith Atkins was a grandson of Eula Lee Norfleet and Milton Smith Atkins, a great grandson of Frances Ann Smith Bryant and Lewis G. Atkins, a 2nd great grandson of William S. Atkins and his wife Lucy; and a 3rd great grandson of Rev. War soldier Lewis Atkins and his wife Rebecca.)
