James T. Roper,
Arlington, Rt. 1, was dead on arrival at 3
p.m. Monday at Lourdes Hospital. He was
62. Mr. Roper, a brickmason, leaves two
sons, J. Tandy Roper, Kevil, Rt. 4; and Ray B. Roper; five sisters,
Mrs. H.
Wallace Tanner, Mrs. Curtis King and Mrs. Perkins Quarles, all of West
Paducah,
Rt. 1; Mrs. Ralph Graves, Bardwell; and Mrs. Mildred Carroll, Melber; a
brother, E. J. Roper, Paducah; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Roper was a member of the Palestine
Methodist Church, Grahamville; Grahamville Masonic Lodge No. 707,
Brickmason
and Plasterers’ Union No. 4 of Kentucky; and the Mayfield Citizens Band
Radio
Club. Funeral services will be conducted
at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Milner Chapel in Bardwell by the Rev. James O.
Wright
and the Rev. Hoyt Owen, with burial in the Milburn Cemetery. Friends may call
at the Milner Funeral Home.
(Note: James T. Roper’s grandparents, Elizabeth Melissa Atkins and Marcus Lindsey Roper were first cousins, so he was a great great grandson of Rev. War soldier Lewis Atkins through Lewis’ daughter Rachel Atkins who married Charles Roper and George B. Atkins who married Sarah Matheny. His wife, Lucille F. Brent, died in 1964.)
