Lawrence Lacy Roper, 35, valuable employee of Bass & Company, died this morning about 9:30 at the home at 1711 Broad Street following a paralytic stroke this morning shortly after 7 o’clock.  Mr. Roper was not feeling very well for the past day or so, but was not thought to be in serious condition.  Death came in approximately two and a half hours after the sudden stroke.  Mr. Roper had been connected with Bass & Co. since the firm was organized and was a cost accountant in the planning department of the firm.  He was a conscientious workman, was well liked by his fellow employees and made friends wherever he went.  He was a member of the First Methodist Church, and was active in church and Sunday School.  Mr. Roper is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy A. Roper, two children, Lawrence Lacy Roper, Jr., and Elizabeth Ann Roper; his father, Newton Roper of the county; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert Williamson and Misses Peggy Roper and Ellen Roper, all of Bryan Street; and four brothers, Fred Roper, Cadiz; and the following brothers of the city: Justin Roper, William Roper, and Hubert Roper.  The funeral service will be conducted at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Dr. J. W. Weldon officiating, and burial will be at LaFayette.

(Note:  Lawrence Lacy Roper’s grandparents, Elizabeth Melissa Atkins and Marcus Lindsey Roper were first cousins, so he was a great great grandson of Rev. War soldier Lewis Atkins through Lewis’ daughter Rachel Atkins who married Charles Roper and George B. Atkins who married Sarah Matheny.)
