Mayme E. Cherry Crockarell

Mayme E. Crockarell, 81, Indian Mound, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1987, at Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.  The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Anglin Memorial Chapel, Dover, with the Revs. Delwin Fryer and S. P. Decker officiating.  Burial will be in Heflin Cemetery, Dover.  Visitation will be until the hour of the service.  She was born in Stewart County on Oct. 20, 1905, a daughter of Richard L. and Tillie Lewis Cherry.  She was a homemaker and member of Rose Valley United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for 65 years.  She also was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.  Survivors include her husband, Ivan Crockarell, Indian Mound; two sons, Sidney F. Crockarell, Indian Mound; and Bailey M. Crockarell, Jackson, Ga.; two sisters, Eunice Shepherd and Virgie Smith, both of Indian Mound; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Hugh Crockarell, Ronnie Crockarell, Erle Crockarell, Morris Crockarell, Allen Crockarell and Jimmy Crockarell.

(Note:  Mayme E. Lewis Crockarell was a gg granddaughter of three of Lewis and Rebecca Atkins’ children:  Elizabeth O. Atkins who married Daniel Lewis; George B. Atkins who married Sarah Matheny; and William S. Atkins, who married a woman named Lucy.  She was the ggg granddaughter of two Rev. War soldiers:  Lewis Atkins and Thomas Lewis.)
