M.L. Roper fell dead at his home in Lafayette on Wednesday night of last week. He was about eighty years old and had just finished singing a hymn when he fell from his chair to the floor.

(Note:  Marcus Lindsey Roper was the son of Rachel Atkins and Charles Roper and was the grandson of Rev. War soldier Lewis Atkins and his wife Rebecca.  He was married to his first cousin Elizabeth Melissa Atkins, daughter of his mother’s brother, George B. Atkins and Sarah Matheny.)
