Launa Gertrude Atkins Powers
Jun 6, 1891 – Oct 5, 1970

Mrs. Launa Gertrude Powers, 79, died at 2:30 a.m. this morning at Memorial Hospital after a one-week illness.  She was a resident of 2205 N. Meadow Dr.  Services will be conducted Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene by the Rev. John Price.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  Mrs. Powers was born in Stewart County on June 6, 1891, and had been a resident for the past 45 years.  She was the daughter of the late Newton and Alice Brake Atkins and the wife of the late Edward T. Powers who died in 1939.  Survivors include one son, Edward Powers, Clarksville; two daughters, Mrs. Lester Harris and Mrs. Willis Vick, both of Clarksville; one step-daughter, Mrs. Frank Broome, Ferndale, Mich.; two brothers, Tommy Atkins, Big Rock, Tenn., and Shannon Atkins, Dover, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  Active pallbearers will be Buford Appleton, Robert Clevenger, Thomas Elliott, William Lawson, William Oldham, Edgar Powers, Jr., Robert Sanford and Oliver Shelton.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the official board of the First Church of the Nazarene.

(Note:  Launa Gertrude Atkins Powers was a granddaughter of George C. and Nancy Jane Smith Atkins; a great granddaughter of Richard S. and Milberry Josaphine Thomason  Atkins; and a gg granddaughter of Bazel and Martha Hood Smith and Rev. War soldier Lewis Atkins and Rebecca.)
