Arthur Ewing Hodges, 72, of Route 1 Cunningham, died Thursday at his home after a brief illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gum Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Lloyd Ashby and Howard Lee officiating. Burial will be in Gum Springs Church Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the residence.

Hodges was born in Montgomery County on Feb. 13, 1911, and was a son of the late John Hodges and Mary Ferrell Hodges.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Marie Underwood Hodges, who died Oct. 13, 1980. Hodges was retired from Acme Boot Co. and was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Hodges and Edwin E. Hodges, both of Cunningham, three daughters, Nellie R. Potts and Brenda L. Britt, both of Cunningham, and Mary F. Akins, Cumberland Furnace, Tenn.; two brothers, Owen Hodges, Nashville, and John Hodges Jr., Cumberland Furnace; three sisters, Valley Stone, Holland, Ohio, Maybell Biter and Edna Earl Gunter, both of Cunningham; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Hodges's nephews will serve as pallbearers.

McReynolds-Nave Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
