Mrs. Flossie E. Byrd,  77, died Wednesday in Clarksville Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was a resident of Route 2. Indian Mound.
    Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Mulligan Funeral Home by the Rev. Carl Wilson. Burial will be in Red 'Top Cemetery.
Mrs. Byrd was born in Stewart Co.. Nov 27. daughter of the late Hulin and Lee Anna Vaughan .  she was a member the Free Will Baptist Church.
    Survivors are her husband. Thomas Byrd.; Six sons, Bill, Oak Ridge. Tenn.: Jimmy and Bobby. Dover: Ka Tired, and William. Indian Mound; Smith Byrd. Clarksville: one daughter Mrs. Lillian Rogers. Toledo, Ohio: three brothers. Douglas and Ralph Smith. Indian Mound. Syres Smith, Clarksville. four sisters. Mu. Lillian Keatts. Mrs Lathe Wolfe. and Mrs Bernice Mann. all of Indian Mound: Mrs Etta  Cook. Maryville. Tenn.: 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

FRANK BYRD

Frank Benjamin Byrd, 72, of 702 Central Ave., Clarksville, died February 26, in General Care Convalescent Center following an extended illness.
    Services were held at 10 a.m.Feb.28 at Anglin Memorial Chapel in Dover with the Rev. Clyde
Brake officiating. Burial was in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Clarksville.
    He was a native of Stewart County, born April 26, 1908, and was a member of the Church of Christ.
    He was the son of the late Clay and Ophelia Norfleet Byrd and the husband of the late
Ethelene Joiner Byrd.
    He is survived by four sisters, Cornelia Ellis, Edna Rhea Spiceland and Blanche Blanks, Clarksville; and one grandchild.
    Pallbearers were Thomas Joiner, John Joiner, Thomas Hancock, Larry Byrd, Rickey Byrd and
George Wallace.


H. L. BYRD
H. L Byrd, 88, Route 2, Dover, died June 2 at Trinity Hospital in Erin after an extended illness  1981
    Services were held at Anglin Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kirkland Wyatt officiating. Burial was in the Wofford Cemetery in Dover.
    Mr. Byrd, a retired Southern Railroad engineer, was born April 27, 1893, in Tennessee, the son of the late Zachariah and Cenith Marcum Byrd.
    Survivors include a son, Boyd L.Byrd of Oregon; three daughters, Audrey Lowe of Piquay, Ohio; Fae Burdett of Dover and Bernice Fort of Fort Ogden, Fla.; two brothers, Dewey Byrd of Huntsville and Delus Byrd of Helenwood; one sister, Marlena Hatfield of Indiana;
and 13 grandchildren.
    Pallbearers were Delbert Williams, Henry Settle, Howard Howser, Charlie Stavely, Thomas Warden and Andy Scaff.
    Mr. Byrd was a member of the Fort Ogden Baptist Church.

ASHLAND City - Harry Robert Byrd roofer of Ashland City, died Sunday in Memorial Hospital after an illness of 10 months.
    Services will be conducted Tuesday at I p.m. at Phillips Robinson Funeral Home. Gallatin Road. Nashville.
    Mrs. Byrd was born Dee. 8. 1016 in Clarksville, son of the late W. R. and Sarah Elizabeth Ends Byrd.
    Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rena Binnion Byrd: three sons. Bobby. DOVER -- Mrs. Ida May Sexton. 89, died Tuesday in General Care Convalescent Center. Clarksville, after a lingering illness.
    Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Anglin Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Herbert McFadden. Burial will be in Wofford Cemetery.
    Mrs. Sexton was born May 8, 1887 in Stewart County, daughter of the late George and Mandy McCarty Byrd. Her husband, Mike M. Sexton, died Feb. II, 1970. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Dover.
    Survivors are three sons. Ray, Dover; Henry F., Iowa City. Iowa; Olman Sexton. Paduach, Ky.; four daughters, Mrs. Ella Byrd, Dover; Mrs. Manual Cherry, Lincoln Park, Mich.; Mrs Robert Tatum and Mrs. Miller Ozment, Nashville.: a sister.
Mrs. Cordia Woodlawn: 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
    Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

INDIAN MOUND    -- Mrs.Janie M. Norfleet, 61, died Saturday in Clarksville Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am. Tuesday at Milligan Funeral Home by the Rev. Noble Peavyhouse. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery.
    Mrs. Norfleet was born in Stewart Co. Feb. 8, 1911, daughter of the late Oscar I. and Nannie Byrd Lewis. Ste was a member of Rose Valley United Methodist Church.
    Survivors are her husband, Halliday Norfleet, whom she married Sept. 27, 1937; a son, Billy Norfleet, Indian Mound; one daughter, Mrs. Taylor Henry Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Oscar I. Lewis Jr., Indian Mound; four sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Vaughan and Mrs. Maggie Shepherd, both of Clarksville, Mrs. Birdie Hargis, Hopkinsville, Ky., and Mrs. Nell Crow, Ft. Richard, Alaska; two grandchildren.
    Pallbearers will be Acrie and Angers Norfleet, Wylie Byrd, Fulton Edwards, Allen Lewis, and Gus Norfleet.

    Services for Jessie Boyd Petty, 67, of Nunnelly, Tenn., were held in the chapel of Dickson Funeral Home, Friday. April 1, 1977, conducted by Bro J.  Cathey with burial in Petty Cemetery.
    Mrs. Petty, daughter of Samuel Jackson Petty, and Susie Byrd, died March 30, 1977 in Baptist Hospital.
    Survivors include three sons, Roy D. Petty, Portland,Tn., Stephen B.Petty, Nashville, Johnny Samlyian Petty, Nashville, Tenn.; four daughters, Mrs. Betty Hand, Nashville, Tn., Mrs. Ruth Tidwell, Nashville, Mrs. Willie Mae Brown, Burns, and Lorraine Petty, Nunnelly, Tenn. four brothers, Winfrey Petty, Nunnelly, Tn., Edward Petty, Centerville, Tn., Morris Petty, Nashville, Tn., and Frank Petty, Nunnelly. 24 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.


JEWELL BYRD SUITER

Funeral services for Mrs. Jewell Byrd Suiter 53, who died Monday morning at her residence at 132 Hickory Grove, will be conducted at 10 a m Thursday at Murphy Funeral Home by the Rev. John D. Laida. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
    Mrs. Suiter was born September 21, 1913 In Dover, Term., but had lived in Montgomery
County 35 years. She was the daughter of the late James L. and Lula Blane Byrd. October, 27, 1927, she was married to Eugene Sutter, who survives.Surviving are a brother, Grady Sutter,
Dover; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Jones, Aiken, S.C., and Mrs. S.C. Folks, Paris, Tenn
    She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher.
    Active pallbearers will be Charles Vaden, Lynn Allison, Bob Coke, J.H. Scarbrough, William Titus, III, and Charles S. Folks. Honorary pallbearers will be William D. Baker, Homer
Maholland, Russell Wallace, Wayne Turner, Jerry Ratcliff, John Balthrop, George Duriska, and Dr. Fount Russell.


J EDGAR BYRD

John Edgar Byrd, retired civil service employe and currently employed with the Tennessee
Highway Department, died Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Clarksville Memorial Hospital following a
month's illness. He was resident of Collinwood Dr., Clarksville.
    Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Milligan Funeral Home, Dover, by the Rev. Dee
Poole and the Rev. Delyn Pryer. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Clarksville.
Masonic rites will be conducted at the graveside.
    Mr. Byrd was born in Stewart County Aug. 23. 1915, son of the late John E. and Evie Lewis
Byrd. He was a member of Wyatt's Chapel United Methodist Church and was past master of
Indian Mound Lodge.
    Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Willie Mae Crockerell Byrd whom he married Dec. 21. 1934; a
son, Daniel E. Byrd, Clarksville; two daughters. Mrs. Carolyn Smittou. Clarkville, and Mrs.
Evadeen Vick, Woodlawn, a brother, Wesley Byrd, Indian Mound. four half-brothers, Olive
Byrd, Indian Mound: Henry and Elvis Byrd, both of Granite City, Ill; Burris Byrd. Dover; two
sisters, Clara Smith, Clarksville and Mrs. Lucy Butts, Dover; a half- sister, Mrs. Ann Elliott, 
Dover; four grandchildren.
    Pallbearers will be Arbie Gafford. Steve Crockarell, Mack Butts, Ronnie Byrd. Jimmy Mullins,
and Dalton Smith.


LANTHA BYRD

Services for Lantha Lee Byrd, 78, of 311 Locust St., will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Tarpley's
Chapel with the Rev. Garry Speich officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
    Mrs. Byrd died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
    A native of Montgomery County, Mrs. Byrd was born Oct. 13, 1902, the daughter of the lateSam and Mary Black Yarbrough. Her husband, Allen Byrd, preceded her in death.
    She was a member of New Providence United Methodist Church.
    Survivors are four sons, Herbert Byrd and John Rye, both of Clarksville, Frank Byrd,
Woodlawn, and Bobby Byrd, Greenbrier; one daughter, Mrs. Cecil Lehman, Clarksville; one
brother, Paul Yarbrough, Clarksville; one sister, Liza Davidson, Clarksville; and 11
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
    Pallbearers, will be David Byrd, David Ussery, Donald Lehman, Larry Byrd, Arthur Reynolds Jr., Jimmy Meade, Dan Roath, Lamar Bouressa and Mike Byrd.


LESTER ACREE

DOVER - Lester Acree. 78, Greenville. Miss., died Tuesday at Kings Daughters Hospital,
Greenville. Jan. 26, 1982
    Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Anglin Memorial Chapel, Dover, with the Rev.
William G. Pieper officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Dover.
    Born Jan. 2, 1904, in Stewart County, Mr. Acree was the son of the late Dr. Frank M. Acree and Louisa Byrd Acree.
    A retired schoolteacher. Mr. Acree was the author of the "Old Stuff" column which appeared in the Stewart-Houston Times newspaper for several years. The column traced the history of Stewart County families.
    Mr. Acree recently notified the newspaper of his intention to retire. "I told my story, and I'm ready to bow out of the picture," he wrote.
    Mr. Acree taught school for 33 years in Stewart County and in Greenville, Miss. He also
served as superintendent of Chatham Consolidated School, Chatham, Miss.
    He is survived by his widow, Caroline Hutcheson Acree. Greenville.

Lewis Grady Byrd Sr. 82, Route 2, Dover, died Saturday April 14 in Clarksville Memorial
Hospital following an extended illness.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 at Anglin Funeral Home, Dover. with the Revs. Charles Nelson and Mark Wilson officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery,
Dover.
    A native of Stewart County, he was born Aug. 7, 1901, to James Lawrence and Lula Blane Byrd. His wife, Mary Lee Lancaster Byrd, died Dec. 12, 1983.
    He was retired owner of Byrd and Chance Garage of Dover and a member of the First Baptist Church of Dover.
    Survivors include two sons, L. G. Byrd, Jr. and Max L. Byrd, both of Dover; two daughters, Virginia Chance and Marilyn Byrd, both of Dover; a sister, Mavis Jones, Aiken, S.C.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lula B. Atkins, 74, Route 2. Indian Mound, Tenn. died Thursday night in Clarksville
Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
     Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Milligan Funeral Home, Dover,
by the Rev. Joe Moore. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery near Indian Mound.
    Mrs Atkins was born in Stewart County Sept. 25, 1895, daughter of the late E. H. and Alma Wyatt Byrd. Her husband, T. L. Atkins, died In 1952. She was a member of Rose Valley
United Methodist Church .
    Survivors are three sons. Stewarl County Judge Ira Atkins, Dover: Perry Atkins, Florissant. Mo., and Bruce Atkins, Jackson. Tenn.: two daughters, Mrs. Iris Heflin. Big Rock.Tenn., and Mrs. Violet Hargroves. Clarksville; two brothers, Maurice Byrd,. Nashville an Tom Byrd. Indian Mound: three sisters. Mrs. I. S. Edwards. Indian Mound; Mrs Alice  Grizzard,
Clarksville and Mrs. Lena Atkins, Indian Mound and 13 grandchildren.

MARY BYRD

DOVER-Mary Byrd, 88, of Dover died Friday in Henry County General Hospital in Paris
following an extended illness.
    Services will be 10 am. Monday at Anglin Memorial Chapel with Brother William L.Reding officiating. Burial will be in Wofford Cemetery.
    She was a native of Stewart County and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
    Her parents were the late Riley and Martha Williams Byrd.
    She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Cleo Grohan of Murray, Ky.
    Visitation will be at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today.


MARY LEA BYRD

Mary Lea Byrd, 79, of Dover died Monday in Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Today at Anglin Funeral Home in Dover with the Revs. Charles
Nelson and Mark Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
    A native of Stewart County, she was born March 31, 1904, to Robert Lee and Essie Jane
Fitzhugh Lancaster.
    She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dover.
    Survivors include her husband, Grady Byrd; two sons, L.G. Byrd and and Max L. Byrd, both of Dover; two daughters, Virginia Chance and Marilyn Annette Byrd, both of Dover; two sisters, Mrs. Hughie McMillan, Granite City, Ill., and Mrs.Ward Ford, Old Hickory; nine grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

MINERVA BYRD

DOVER- Minerva Lewis Byrd, 89, of Stewart County died Saturday at Memorial Hospital in
Clarksville after an extended illness.
    She was a retired Stewart County school teacher.
    Services were at 2 p.m. today at Anglin Memorial Chapel in Dover with Bryan Fyke 
officiating. Burial will be in Rose Valley Cemetery in Indian Mound.
    Born in Steward County on July 31, 1892, she was the daughter of the late R.P. Lewis and
Betty Smith Lewis. She was the widow of John E. Byrd.
    She was a member of the Wyatts Chapel United Methodist Church.
    Survivors include five sons, Norman Lewis of Dickson, Oliver H. Byrd of Indian Mound, Elvis L.Byrd and Henry I. Byrd of Granite City, Ill., and Burris B. Byrd of Dover; a step-son, Wylie Byrd of Indian Mound; a daughter, Ann E. Elliott of Dover; a stepdaughter, Clara Smith of
Dover; and 34 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.
    Grandsons served as pallbearers.


MYRTLE R. FOLKS
Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Folks, 81, of North Porter Street in Paris, died July 1, at Henry County General Hospital. 1981
    Services were at 2 p.m., July 2, at Ridgeway Morticians in Paris with burial in Dover Hillcrest Cemetery in Dover.

    A native of Stewart County, Mrs. Folks was born Dec. 12, 1899, a daughter of the late James and Lula Blaine Byrd. Her husband. Sid C. Folks died Sept. 17, 1960.
    She was a member of Calvary United Methodist.
    She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James Hunter of Paris; a son, Charles S. Folks of New
Johnsonville; a sister, Mrs. Mavis Jones of Aiken, S.C.; a brother, Grady Byrd of Dover; nine
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.


SAMMIE BAXTER CRUTCHER

Sammie Baxter Crutcher of Amarillo, Texas, died Saturday morning at his residence after a
sudden illness. 
    He was a truck driver.
    Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Anglin Memorial Chapel by the Bro. Rudolph. Buria will be in Blue Springs Cemetery, Route 2, Dover.
    A native of Stewart County, he was born December 14, 1931, son of Mrs. Mavis Lyons
Crutcher of Route 2, Dover. and. the late Herman Crutcher.
    He also leaves his wife, Shirley Crutcher, of Amarillo. Texas. Other survivors include two sons, Sammie Crutcher Jr, of Murray, Ky. and Dusty Crutcher of Amarillo. Texas: one daughter,
Miss Cathy Crutcher of Murray, Ky.: two brothers. Alton Crutcher of Orlando, Fla. and Alvin
Earl Crutcher of Dover: two sisters, Mrs. Dixie Sykes and Mrs. Rebecca Byrd, both of Dover.
    He was a member of the Church of Christ.


SARAH YARBROUGH

    Sarah W. Yarbrough, of Route 1, died Monday at Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
    Services will be at 3 p.m today at Tarpley's Chapel with the Rev. Ed Britt officiating, Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
    Visitation will be until the hour of services at the funeral home.
    A native of Montgomery County, Mrs. Yarbrough was a housewife and a member of the
Antioch United Methodist Church.
    Born Jan. 14, 1909, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Allen Byrd.
    Survivors include her husband Paul R. Yarbrough; three sons. Charles B. and Lawrence
"Larry" Yarbrough of Clarksville and Paul "Tommy" Yarbrough of Palmyra; three daughters,
Mabel Haynes and Jannie James of Clarksville and Bettie Jones of Apalachin, N.Y.; three
brothers, Lee Byrd of Clarksville, David Byrd of Hohenwald and Wilson Byrd of Lakeland,
Fla.; and a sister, Sallie Rose of Clarksville; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
    In lieu of other remembrances, donations may be sent to the Antioch United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
    Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.



SMITH BYRD

    Smith Henry Byrd, 63, Route 2, Indian Mound, died Sunday afternoon at his residence. Sept. 15, 1985
    The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Anglin Memorial Chapel in Dover, with Edwin
Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Indian Mound. Visitation will be held
until the time of the service at the funeral home.
    He was born in Stewart County on Sept. 27, 1921, the son of Thomas H. Byrd and Flossie E. Smith.
    Byrd was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service and from 10 years at Zale
Jewelers in Two Rivers Mall. He was a member of Indian Mound Church of Christ.
    Survivors include his wife, Nancy Legate Byrd; a son, Richard Byrd, Indian Mound; a daughter, Cheryl Zach, Los Angeles, Calif.; six brothers, Jimmy Byrd and Bobby Byrd of Dover, and Kelley Byrd, Fred Byrd and William Byrd, all of Indian Mound, and Bill Byrd, Oak Ridge; a
sister, Lillian Rogers, Toledo, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
    Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

DOVER -- Thomas Henry Byrd, 85, retired farmer, of Indian Mound. died Sunday at his
residence following a short illness.
    Services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Anglin Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Carl
Wilson. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Indian Mound.
    Mr. Byrd was born in Stewart County May 10. 1892. son of the late Gus and  Alma Wyatt
Byrd. His wife, Mrs. Flossie Smith Byrd. died Jam 3, 1973. He was a member of Masonic
Lodge No. 303. Indian Mound.
    Survivors are seven sons, Jimmy and Bobby Byrd. Dover; Kelly, Fred, William, and Smith
Byrd, Indian Mound: Bill Byrd. Oak Ridge. Tenn.: a daughter. Mrs. Lillian Rogers, Toledo.
Ohio: a brother. Morris Byrd. Nashville: 14 grandchildren: nine great-grandchildren.
    Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

DOVER—U.L. Byrd, 88, Route 2, Dover, died yesterday at Trinity Hospital in Erin after an
extended illness.
    Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Anglin Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kirkland Wyatt
officiating. Burial will be in Wofford Cemetery in Dover.

Mr. Byrd, a retired Southern Railroad engineer, was born April 27, 1893, in Tennessee, the son
of the late Zacharlah and Cenith Marcum Byrd.
    Survivors are a son, Boyd L. Byrd of Oregon; three daughters, Audrey Lowe of Piquay, Ohio; Faye Burdett of Dover and Bernice Fort of Fort Ogden, Fla.; two brothers, Dewey Bryd of
Huntsville and Delus Byrd of Helenwood; one sister, Marlena Hatfield of Indiana; and 12
grandchildren.
    Pallbearers will be Delbert Williams, Henry Settle, Howard Howser, Charlie Steavely, Thomas Warden  and Andy Scarf.
    Mr. Byrd was a member of the Fort Ogden Baptist Church.



VIRGIL OLDHAM   
Virgil Ivson Oldham, 78, 410 Circle Drive, died Monday at Memorial Hospital, Sept. 9, 1985
    The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at McReynolds-Nave Chapel with the Rev. Philip Ritter
officiating.
    Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery.
    Visitation will be until the hour of the service.
    Oldham was born in Montgomery County on Aug. 7, 1907, the son of Nathaniel and Sarah
Bennett Oldham. Ile was the widower of Mary Alice Byrd Oldham, who died April 11, 1978.
He was a retired equipment operator for Cumberland Electric Membership Corp. and a
member of Madison Street United Methodist Church.
    Survivors include one son, Billy J.Oldham, Clarksville; one daughter Mrs. Earl Davis,
Clarksville; one brother. Flory Oldham, North Carolina; three sisters, Came Sykes and Nora
Rye, Clarksville, and Eula De Shields, Detroit; six grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.


WILLIAM ODELL BYRD

William Odell Byrd, 66, died Sunday morning at his Route 2 Indian Mound home. He was a
retired mechanic.
    Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Newhaven Baptist Church. Rev, Morris Lee will officiate. Burial will be in the Wofford Cemetery.
    Mr. Byrd was born in Stewart County on May 20,1906. He was the son of the late Claude
Byrd and Mrs. May Harding Byrd, who survives.
    Also surviving are his wife, Ella Sexton Byrd; three sons. Roy Byrd of Indian Mound, J. D.
Byrd Dover, Sexton Byrd, Nashville.
    Mr. Byrd is also survived by four brothers, Bob, James, Nelson and Clyde Byrd, all of Paducah, Ky.; three sisters, Miss Sudie Byrd, Paducah, Ky., Mrs. Birdie Hendrick, Chicago, III., and Mrs. Harry Lane, Paducah, Ky. Seven grandchildren also, survive.
    Pallbearers will be Thomas Vaughn, Clay B. Pulley, Ryman Bryant, Earl Biggs, Pete Decker and Morris Butts.
    He was a member of the New  Haven Baptist Church. The body is at Milligan Funeral Home in Dover.
