Peay, John Hurst (1935 - )

HOUSE, 83rd and 84th General Assemblies, 1963-67; representing Montgomery County; Democrat. Born at Clarksville, Montgomery County, Apr 22, 1935; son of Austin, IV and Martha (Orgain) Peay. Attended elementary and high schools at Clarksville, graduating from Clarksville High School, 1953; received B.S. degree, 1957, and LL.B. degree, 1960, from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Knox County. Married at Harriman, Roane County, June 3, 1958, to Gail Sigman, daughter of Frank S. and Ella B. (Irwin) Sigman; two sons (1963) - John Hurst, Jr. and Frank Austin. Has practiced law at Clarksville since receiving law degree. Member Methodist Episcopal Church; American, Tennessee, and Montgomery County bar associations; Kiwanis Club, having served as vice president; member Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity; Order of the Coif. Member editorial staff, Tennessee Law Review; author “Punitive Damages in Tennessee,” in Tennessee Law Review, Vol 27, (1959-60), pp 381-89. Address (1965), Cumberland Drive, Clarksville. Son of Austin Peay, IV; grandson of Austin Peay, III, sometime members TN General Assembly.
