ALBERT VIRGIL GOODPASTURE

Section 7

I. Albert Virgil Goodpasture owned and lived on a farm in the Oakland Community near Spring Creek. He and his brother owned a bookstore in Nashville.

2. He became editor of “American Historical Magazine”, forerunner of today’s TN Historical Quarterly.

3. He wrote many histories, one of which was HISTORY OF TN, a school text.

4. His son, ERNEST WILLIAM GOODPASTURE, barely missed in winning the Nobel Prize for Medicine when he identified the virus that causes mumps and when he intoduced the chick embryo which improved the vaccination against smallpox. Ernest William is buried in Section 21 at the back of the cemetery.
