Claude Powers

     November 4, 1987

  Claude “Snook” Powers, 68, 570 Bryan Road, died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital.

  Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tarpley’s Chapel with the Rev. John Stiles officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

  Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Tarpley’s.

  Mr. Powers was born July 4, 1913, in Montgomery County, the son of the late Clay and Bertha Nesbitt Powers.

  He was a retired Fort Campbell Civil Service employee, a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a naval veteran of World War II. He also was a mem­ber of the Masonic Lodge of Clark­ston, Mich., the American Legion, Scottish Rite and York Rites and was a Shriner.

  Surviving him are his widow, Lu­cille Shearon Powers; a son, Claude W. Powers, Nashville; a daughter, Julia Poindexter, New­ark, Ohio; two brothers, Barney Powers and Louis W. Powers, both of Memphis; four sisters, Mabel Hicks, Clarksville, Minnie Lee Voigt, Plainfield, N.J., Geneva Smith, Charlevoix, Mich., and Catherine Birdwell, Camarillo, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

  Pallbearers will be Gary Com­perry, Russell Powers, Perry Mur­phy, Clifton Bumpus, Houston Wade, Walter Head, Louis W. Powers and Barney Powers.
