AMOS HURLEY

In the name of God Amen. I Amos Hurley, of the State of North
Carolina and Chatham County being at this time weak in body
tho’ of sound mind and memory do make and appoint this my last
will and testament as follows: First, I give my soul to God
who gave it. Secondly, Body to earth from whence it was taken
to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors or my
surviving friends. And as touching my worldly goods, I give
and bequeath to or rather desire that two certain tracts of
(land) lying and being in the County and State aforesaid; one
containing one hundred and thirty acres bounded by the lines
Reddin Bryan, John Burns and others. The containing seventy
five acres bounded by the lines of John Hollowman, Samuel
Gilmour and John Lett. All which land it is my will and desire
that they should be sold to the highest bidder on credit of
twelve months. The money arising therefrom to be appropriated
as my executors may think most expedient for the benefit of my
heirs. Also I give and bequeath to my dutiful and beloved son
Acie Hurley the plantations whereon I now live containing two
hundred and twenty acres more or less; also one cow and
yearling, one bed and furniture, two sows and pigs. Also I
give to my daughter Margaret fifty five dollars. I give to my
daughter Nancy one bed and furniture and fifty dollars. To my
daughter Cynthia I give one bed and furniture and fifty
dollars. Unto my son John Hurley I give the sum of five
shillings with what (he) already had. To my son Elijah Hurley
I give the sum of five shillings with what he has had. And
unto my son Josiah Hurley I give the sum of five shillings
with what he had already had. To my daughter Mary Neel I give
the sum of five shillings with what she has already had. To my
daughter Delilah Riddle the same sum of ten dollars with what
she has had. Also to my daughter Bathsheba Bryan I give the
sum of five shillings and what she has had. And unto my grand
daughter Lucy W. Hurley I do give one bed and furniture. And I
do nominate and appoint my son Acie Hurley and my son-in-law
Britain Riddle as my faithful executors to execute this my
last will and testament. As unto which presents I have set my
hand and affixed my seal day of (blank) In the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.
