The Womac Cemetery is in Calhoun, TN in McMinn County. The closest
highway is 75 and its near the Bowaters Paper plant. This is a record of
every grave marker there. Each person is listed just as it is on their
stones. I call it Womac, instead of Womack, because thats how I was brought
up. My mother is the Daughter of Bertha Allie Womac Eaves. My sister Karen
Lafaye Penney, is buried there as well as my GGF and GGGF. I knew I had
other relatives there, but wasn't sure how I was related to most of them,
until I met Connie Baumann. She knew more about who I was related to than
I did. She has provided me with a wealth of information that would have
taken me years to acquire, including finding out about this site. For that
I am forever thankful.
The Womac Cemetery in July 1997
My mother took me to Womac Cemetery this past July. Even though I
spent alot of time near there when I was young, things have changed so
much. The cemetery is out in the middle of nowhere. I can't provide the
address. We got so lost on those back roads, that we didn't know where
we were. I can tell you it isn't more than a couple of miles from Meadowfork
Baptist Church, where there are also Womac's buried. Thats about the best
I can do. It's out in a field behind a house that is disintegrating . You
could drive by it and miss it, because there are no markers. Once you drive
to the back, you come to the fenced Cemetery. Its been really well cared
for. I plan to make another visit down there next year and when I do, I
will make sure to write down the directions. I recently found out that
some of my family members do the upkeep on this cemetery. They are all
Womac family members, of course! Anyway, I hope this information will help
some other Womac/Womack researchers.
