{"id":64,"date":"2012-01-29T11:42:22","date_gmt":"2012-01-29T17:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/maury2\/?p=64"},"modified":"2019-01-03T16:16:45","modified_gmt":"2019-01-03T22:16:45","slug":"robertson-bryant-bible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/maury\/robertson-bryant-bible\/","title":{"rendered":"Robertson Bryant Bible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><em>Unless otherwise noted, all entries in the bible are clear and very legible.\u00a0\u00a0Spellings are listed as found in the bible.\u00a0\u00a0I would estimate that 3 different people (handwriting) made entries in the bible.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0For accuracy, all transcribed entries have been independently proofread.\u00a0\u00a0Transcription errors may, nonetheless, occur.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In addition to the entries made for Robertson Bryant and his family, this antebellum bible lists 23 \u201cNegros\u201d births (no deaths or marriages are noted).\u00a0These births range in dates from 1791 to 1859.\u00a0\u00a0Several of these individuals (apparently) maintained the last name of Bryant as they can be found in the 1870 &amp; 1880 census (for example, Major Bryant, Albert Bryant, Charlotte Bryant, and Zackeriah Bryant).\u00a0\u00a0To my knowledge these births have not been published previously.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The family record pages were, at one time, removed from the bible.\u00a0\u00a0They were then re-sewn (by hand) together and placed back in the bible.\u00a0\u00a0I would speculate that the pages were removed for needed proof in making applications for military (Civil War) pensions.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>As of 2005, this bible is in the possession of Robertson &amp; Nancy (Amis) Bryant\u2019s great-great-great granddaughter, Lucy Bryant (Dunaway) Zeier.\u00a0\u00a0To my knowledge, the bible\u2019s provenance is from Robertson Bryant:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0to his son, Isaiah Burney\u00a0\u00a0Bryant (1834-1917),<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0through his daughter, Cornelia Robertson (Bryant) Reavis (1869-1953),<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0then to her daughter Emma Lucy (Reavis) Bryant (1891-1986),<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>through (both) her daughters Cornelia Frances (Bryant) Freeland (1925 \u2013 present) &amp; Marilyn Reavis (Bryant) Dunaway (1923 \u2013 present),<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>to (currently) Lucy Bryant (Dunaway) Zeier (1954 \u2013 present).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>The bible is intact, but fragile condition as of 2005.\u00a0\u00a0I believe the bible started its life in Maury County, Tennessee.\u00a0\u00a0Not until the very latter part of the 20<sup>th<\/sup>century, did this bible ever leave Tennessee soil.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Also, please see the transcribed will of Robertson Bryant (also located on this Web Page.)\u00a0\u00a0His will mentions some of his children and grandchildren, as well as some of his slaves.\u00a0\u00a0Even several years after the close of the Civil War (will was dated 1867), Robertson Bryant was bequeathing slaves to his descendants.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>I (Lucy) would like to correspond with others interested in this family.\u00a0\u00a0I will be happy to share copies of the bible pages (either electronically or in paper format) with anyone who would like a copy.\u00a0\u00a0Please contact me at:\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"javascript:secureDecryptAndNavigate('oYm4bqh45EkzWJvFh8KLqd1dH1gXIDlufRsIZ6ncQeiuPW9BaqOIYjdBj+um2fIDVrc6bdSfQb9s4m50zSmOG9uhIDoIcg==', 'da60ba861d3a3a338a4323293374df6057e12f0a980d78688ca3075bc91f3074')\">LooswhL [at] aoL [dot] com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>I would like to dedicate the posting of this bible to my mother, Marilyn (Bryant) Dunaway, and to my aunt, C.
