{"id":622,"date":"2013-10-18T17:11:54","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T22:11:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/maury\/?p=622"},"modified":"2019-01-03T16:15:28","modified_gmt":"2019-01-03T22:15:28","slug":"members-of-the-united-states-colored-troops-to-be-commemorated-in-dedication-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/maury\/members-of-the-united-states-colored-troops-to-be-commemorated-in-dedication-ceremony\/","title":{"rendered":"Members of the United States Colored Troops to be Commemorated in Dedication Ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AAHSOCIETY\" target=\"_blank\">African American Heritage Society of Maury County<\/a>\u00a0announced that a dedication ceremony to commemorate the placement of the names of 54 members of the United States Colored Troops (U.S.C.T.) from Maury County and 4 white Maury Countians who fought and died for the union in the Civil War will be conducted on Oct 19<sup>th<\/sup>, 2013 at 10 AM at the Maury County War Memorial Monument located outside the Maury County Court House.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The program includes an honor guard from the black Civil War re-enactors of the 13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0U.S.C. T. Regiment who will present and post arms to honor these men, as their names are read into\u00a0Maury\u00a0County\u2019s place of history.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Key Note speakers include, Mr. Patrick McIntyre, Director of the Tennessee Historical commission; Mr.\u00a0John Seigenthaler, founder of the First Amendment Foundation, and Dr. Bobby Lovett.\u00a0\u00a0Ms. Dorothy Oliver will sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic and Oh Freedom, followed by a prayer and taps to honor these brave men.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A luncheon will be served following the ceremony at\u00a011:30 am\u00a0in the Parish Hall at St. Peters Episcopal Church on\u00a07<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0St.\u00a0\u00a0Dr. Bobby Lovett of TSU will speak.
