{"id":526,"date":"2012-07-22T18:11:05","date_gmt":"2012-07-22T23:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/maury\/?p=526"},"modified":"2019-01-03T16:15:29","modified_gmt":"2019-01-03T22:15:29","slug":"lindsey-john-1848","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/maury\/lindsey-john-1848\/","title":{"rendered":"LINDSEY, John (1848)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Will of John Lindsey who died July 1, 1848<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">This will is recorded in the Maury County, Tennessee Court House in Columbia, Tenn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">It is found in Vol. 2-B 1847-50<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">I <strong>John Lindsey<\/strong> of this County of Maury and State of Tennessee do make and publish this as my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all other wills by me made at any other time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">First I desire that my funeral expences and all of my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any monies that I may die possessed of or may first come into the hands of my executors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Secondly, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife <strong>Elizabeth,<\/strong> my plantation and all of my houses which I own, all of my negros <strong>Viz, Dice, Hida, Amanda, Maria<\/strong> and her sons, all of my horses, wagons,cattle and hogs, farming untensils, all of corn, fodder, hay and oats, all of my household and kitchen furniture during her natural life. The plantation of which my son <strong>William<\/strong> now lives. It is my will that he remain on it during the life time of my wife <strong>Elizabeth<\/strong> and that she bind him to clear two or three acres on the east of the Plantation and put it in good repair and not to sell or use my timber only what may be necessary in keeping good fences and fire wood and if my son William fails to keep this place in good repair he is to pay annually to my wife <strong>Elizabeth<\/strong> ten dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Third, it is my will and desire that on the death of my wife that all my land, negroes, and horses, cattle and sheep, house hold and kitchen furniture and property of every kind be sold on a credit of twelve months to the highest bidder and this proceeds to be divided in the following manner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Fourth after the sale of my property I give and bequeath to my son William one seventh part of my estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Fifth I give and bequeath to my son<strong> Caleb<\/strong> one seventh part of my estate on the following conditions provided if he should die without Issue, that he gives a refunding for his part of the estate which shall return back to be divided among my children equally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Sixth I give and bequeath one seventh part of my estate to the children of my daughter<strong> Lucinda<\/strong> which she now has and may have hereafter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Seventh, I give and bequeath to my son <strong>James<\/strong> one seventh part of my estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">I give and bequeath to my daughter <strong>Polly<\/strong> one seventh of my estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">I give and bequeath to my son<strong> David<\/strong> one seventh part of my estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">I give and bequeath to my daughter <strong>Betsy<\/strong> one seventh part of my estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Lastly I do hereby nominate my sons <strong>William<\/strong> and<strong> David Lindsey<\/strong> my Executors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">In witness whereof I do this my will set my hand and seal this 08th day of February A.D. 1848.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Signed Sealed and published in our John Lindsey presence and we have subscribed our names here in the presence of the Testator:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">I.
