Will of H. W. Griffith

I, H. W. Griffith of Jasper, Marion County, Tennessee, do make and publish this as my last will and testament hereby revoking any former will which I may have made. I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid by the executor hereinafter named out of any moneys or personal property which may come into his hands after my death.

2d; I bequeath to my grandchildren, Hugh, Frank and Katie Griffith, the children of my son Albert Griffith, deceased, the following real estate situated in the town of Jasper, Marion County, Tenn. One house and lot in Jasper, formerly known as the Bob Jones property and is bounded on the south by the street separating said property from the property of John W. Simpson; on the west by the street separating said property from the property of Ben Lasater and others, on the north by the colored church property and the property of Byron Pope and on the east by a line stating at the J.W. Simpson northeast corner and runing [sic] northwardly paralell [sic] with the western boundry[sic] line, of tract herein conveyed containing by estimation about three acres, and being the property where Charlie Lewis and wife now reside.

3d; I bequeath to my grandson, Roy Jones, son of my daughter Ida Griffith Jones, deceased, the following real estate situated in the town of Jasper, Marion County, the house and lot situated in what is known as the College Addition of Jasper and west of the Southern Methodist Parsonage property and known as the Albert Griffith house and lot, containing one acre, and also the lot lying directly north of the aforesaid property containing one acre, the same being separated from the first named lot by a street or alley also one fractional parts of lot on the southwest corner of the public square, on which are located the Barber shop occupied by Frank Horton and the store room occupied at present by David Lawson, and lots fronts about 50 feet on the public square.

4th; I bequeath to my son James B. Griffith the following described real estate;

1st; A tract of land situated in the 7th Civil District of Marion County, Tennessee and on the road leading from Jasper to Shellmound, containing 72 acres and bounded on the east by the J. D. Payne land, on the south by the Mat Roberson heirs lands, on the west by the William Byrne land and on the north by Viney Lamb lands.

2d; tract. Bounded on the south by the land of the John D. Wyrick heirs, on the west by the Viney Lamb lands, on the north by the Mrs Laura Anderson lands, on the east by the Mrs Laura Anderson lands, containing 50 acres, the above two tracts being lands purchased by me of A. L. Spears on the 20th day of April 1895 and recorded in book “CC” page 417 in the Registers office at Jasper, to which reference is had for a complete description, also the land laid off and allotted to me in a partition case of Bryant Kelly and others against H. W. Griffith in the Chancery Court at Jasper being part of the Viney Lamb lands and lying and adjoining the first above described tract or tracts. Also a tract of land situated on the top of Cumberland Mountain and known as the Jane Cochron, tract and having been purchased by me of William and James Deney, the heirs of Jane Cochron, deceased, containing about 150 acres more or less, adjoining the Mat Bryson 5000 acre entry, said land is described particularly in a deed from William and James Denney be [sic- to] me, which is of record in book____, page____ of the Registers office in Jasper, to which reference is here made for a complete description.

5th; I bequeath to my daughter May Griffith McGhee, wife of William McGhee the following described tract of land located in the 7th Civil District of Marion County, Tennessee, and known as the Francis Ketchum tract. Said tract of land is situated in what is known as the left hand prong of Pryor’s Cove, a part of said land lying on top of Cumberland Mountain containing about 590 acres more or less and is particularly described in a deed from Francis Ketchum to me made on January the 16th 1890. And recorded in the deed book "N"N [sic] page 566 et seq. at Jasper, Tennessee to which reference is here made for a full and complete description.

6th I bequeath to my son [?Charllie] M. Griffith the following real estate situated in the town of Jasper, Marion County, Tennessee. And known as H. W. Griffith"s [sic] home place being the place where I now reside, the same is bounded on the north by the M.E. Church, South and the property of Byron Pope, on the east by the public road or street leading north out of Jasper, on the south by a street separating said property from the property of Mrs Bettir [sic- Bettie] Rankin and Mr. McLaughlin on the west by the line separating said property from the property hereinbefore bequeathed to my grand children, Hugh, Frank and Kattie Griffith. I also bequeath to my son Charlie M. Griffith all my accounts, medical library and office fixtures, and in fact all the residue of my estate of any kind and character both real and personal except I desire that my daughter May McGhee have one feather bed, bed-stead and necessary bed-clothing and that my son James B. Griffith have a bureau and my chair.

I name my son Charlie M. Griffith as the sole executor of this my will and testiment [sic].
