Will of Ransom Smith

This is to witness that I, Ransom Smith, do make and publish this as my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all others by me at any time made.

First: I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any moneys that I may die posessed [sic] of, or may first come into the hands of my executor.

Secondly: I give and bequeath unto E W Smith, my said wife, one horse, saddle and bridle, one cow and calf, one sow and pigs and fifty acres of land including the house and barn, the spring and all the improvements where I now live, and bounded as follows to wit: beginning at a stake on the limestone point west of the old tan-yard running Southwardly ninety poles to a rock corner, thence eastwardly ninety poles to a rock corner, then northwardly ninety poles to a stake, thence west to the beginning, measured and corners established by Robert Davis and George Ealy: Also fifty acres (more or less) on the side of the mountain, lying on the ridge known as the pine ridge, extending from the foot to the top of the mountain, bounded by the hollow each side of said ridge, and to have full access to the timber to be used on the above mentioned lands, to have and to hold during her natural life, and at her death the land with all its improvements to be sold and the proceeds equally divided among my children.

Thirdly: I give and bequeath unto T. R. Smith, Mary Smith, D. R. Smith and L. L. Smith each one horse, saddle and bridle, one cow and calf and sow and pigs and one family bible, or their value in money or land, unless I furnish the above mentioned property during my life.

Fourthly: I give and bequeath unto Geo W. Smith and Ransom Smith each one cow and calf and one sow and pigs and one family bible or their value in money or land unless I furnish the above described property during my life.

Fifthly: I direct that the remainder be equally divided among my children.

Sixthly: I do hereby designate Geo W. Smith as my executor.

In witness whereof I do to this will set my hand and seal, this the 18th day of March 1885.
