{"id":475,"date":"2013-08-25T21:51:40","date_gmt":"2013-08-26T02:51:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/madison\/?p=475"},"modified":"2019-01-03T21:16:23","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T03:16:23","slug":"uncle-overton-robbed-1871","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/madison\/uncle-overton-robbed-1871\/","title":{"rendered":"Uncle Overton Robbed (1871)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About dusk, Thursday evening, as <strong>uncle Overton,<\/strong> a well known colored peddler, over seventy years old, was leaving town by one of the back streets, he was attacked and robbed by a negro boy named <strong>Isaac TROTTER<\/strong>. \u00a0The old man was thrown down violently \u00a0and choked until he gave up his money &#8211; some twenty dollars. <strong>\u00a0Officer McALEXANDER<\/strong> arrested <strong>TROTTER<\/strong> a few hours afterwards, who having procured a marriage license with part of the stolen money, was to have been married to a dusky damsel in one hour from the time of his arrest. \u00a0He will be turned over to <strong>Judge BLACK.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Whig and tribune.<\/i>\u00a0(Jackson, Tenn.), 02 Sept. 1871.\u00a0<i>Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers<\/i>.
