CAMPBELL<\/strong> is erecting a brick office on the Bank lot, west of the Bank.<\/li>\n<li>The police force has been increased by the addition of <strong>Mr. T.H. NEWSOM<\/strong>. \u00a0He was sworn in on Wednesday.<\/li>\n<li>We have in our family the Rocking chair in which <strong>Gen&#8217;l Wm. T. HASKELL<\/strong> was nursed.<\/li>\n<li>We saw a man on the street this week dressed in green. \u00a0We could not learn whether he was a Hibernian, a Frenian, or a Communist.<\/li>\n<li>Gas Works &#8212; <strong>Messrs. TURNBOLT &amp; HENNING,<\/strong> of the Jackson Gas Co., are in the city, making arrangements to commence immediately the erection of the necessary works.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Rev. J.E. BRIGHT, D.D.<\/strong>, a teacher of long experience and great success, will open a Female school at the <strong>CARUTHERS<\/strong> place, on Baltimore street, on the first Monday in September next.<\/li>\n<li>Temperance Meeting &#8211; the friends of this worthy cause will meet in Temperance Hall on Tuesday next. It is hoped that all the old members will turn out. &#8211; The<strong> Rev. W.T. BOLING<\/strong>, a most eloquent speaker, will deliver an address.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Robt. FENNER<\/strong>, one of the oldest and most distinguished citizens of Jackson, and one of the most eminent physicians in the South, has been quite ill for some days. \u00a0We but echo the sentiment of thousands, when we express the hope that he may speedily recover, and that many more years may be allotted to him in this world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Source:\u00a0Whig and tribune.\u00a0(Jackson, Tenn.), 29 July 1871.\u00a0Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers.
