PETITION FOR AN ALTERATION IN THE CONSTITUTION FROM SUNDRY CITIZENS OF SMITH COUNTY

Transcribed by The Late Harold G. Blankenship

Smith County October 13, 1837, District 11
To the Honorable Assembly at Nashville:
For us who live in that part of the county which throws us twenty-five or more miles from any seat of justice, we think something might be done. We wish therefore your honorable body would think upon our case and grant us a new county. We are especially looking to those whose constitution we are as taking a greater interest for us. Consider us when you are convened.
