NORRIS

I am looking for information about Ezekiel Norris, founder of Lincoln County, of which Fayetteville is the seat. Apparently there is some dispute in the literature over whether he was African American or Euro American. Our family’s most ancient Bible has him listed as African American, the great grandfather of my grandmother. Her father was Ishan Norris. I am interested in any information about African American Norris’. Apparently the Euro-American Norris family fought on the side of the Confederacy in the Civil War. Family oral history has it that Ezekiel Norris’ father (slave owner), slept with (or perhaps raped), an African American woman, Minerva, whom he owned. Apparently upon his death, he freed her and her children. If you have any information about the NORRIS family line, please let me know.
