BAGLEY
My grandmother was Helen Lucille Bagley, before she married my grandfather, Samuel Thomas Moore. She attended what is now Alabama A & M, when it was a Normal Teacher’s College, at the turn of the century. She came to Detroit, Michigan around 1912, and lived there for the remainder of her life. However, her father’s name was Ishan Norris. I am looking for information on the Bagleys. Her grandmother raised her and her name was Sarah Bagley, and her husband’s name was Tom Bagley. I have talked with a descendant of the old Bagley plantation owners, who said that they had slaves. I am interested in the history of the Bagleys of Fayetteville, Tennessee. My grandmother grew up on Market Street, in the 512 block. Does this “ring a bell”? Bagleys out there, let’s communicate and start a family tree! NORRIS
I am looking for information on the African American NORRIS families of Lincoln County, Tennessee. Apparently Ezekiel Norris was the founder of Lincoln County. Oral history and our family Bible says that he was an African American, but other sources say he was white. The family Bible lists people who are also listed in his will, but, in our Bible, they are listed as African Americans, descendants of a mating that took place between some former Norris plantation owner and a “Minerva” Braden Norris. His sons and grandsons carried the names of Ishan, and Dan, and he had a daughter, according to oral history, by the name of Sophie. However, official Tennessee histories, and an 82-year old woman from Fayetteville says she is a direct descendant of Ezekiel, and says he was white?? Are there any African American Norris’s out there? Let’s at least begin to talk so that we can compare notes and establish a family genealogy for Norris’s of Tennessee. HASTINGS, YELL
Seeking information on the YELL family in former Bedford or Lincoln Co. portions of present Marshall Co, the namesakes? of the community of YELL east of Cornersville in present Marshall Co. Archibald YELL, Gov. of Arkansas in the 1840s and Mexican War hero/casualty, was from the Bedford and Lincoln Co, TN area. Archibald is mentioned as an early attorney in Goodspeed’s History of LCT. Have two direct descendants from William C. HASTINGS line also (temporarily?) from Bedford/Lincoln Co. area who arrived in 1834 in NW Arkansas. His son George William (b. 1825 Bedford Co.) consistently used “YELL” as a middle name for his two sons later in the middle 1800s. Hope William C. HASTINGS wife Delilah (nee ?) was a YELL to solve the puzzle.

ADKERSON
Researching ADKERSON surname. Have found John ADKERSON listed on Franklin County Tax List 1812. Specifically looking for references to Henry ADKERSON born 1848-1850. Henry ADKERSON served in a South Carolina unit in Georgia called Chathams Ga. Artillery during the Civil War. Henry ADKERSON was in his teens during the Civil War and reportedly was from Sand Mountain Alabama but there are no ADKERSONs in Dekalb County 1850 census. I know there are a number of ADKERSONs througout Tennessee and am just following some tenuous leads to the counties bordering Alabama and Georgia.
