Searching for descendants of Gottfried Kercher Carriger and Anna Margarette Anspach. In October 1782 the CARRIGERS settled along the Watauga River in Blue Springs Community, Carter County, Tennessee. Owned many acres and had a family of seven children that made it to Tennessee from Pennsylvania. Eldest son, Nicholas CARRIGER married Kathryn Millard in Carter County. They had a large family ALL BORN IN Carter County. In 1811, or thereabout, they loaded all their children onto a wagon and moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee….. where they lived out their lives along Mulberry Creek.

Can anyone help me find the last will of Henry Kelso wife was Rebecca Kelso whom he left his estate including his slaves.At the time of his death in the early 1800′, he owned almost 100 in the Kelso area. I found a sheet that only gives the slaves age and sex. Their was also a Jefferson Kelso but he owned only about twenty slaves. I was told that a will would have to go through probate and each item would be named . Does anyone know if there is a place to locate old estates wills. Charles ALEXANDER, (S-21599) born Jan 4, 1755, Mecklenburg Co., NC, died 1834-1840 Maury Co., TN. Charles left Mecklenburg Co., NC, in 1814 after he sold the last of his property. Charles migrated from NC to Four Corners, Giles Co., TN, near the Lincoln Co., TN, line, according to a source. His cousin, Rev. Leonidas POLK, and Charles visited 8 Sept 1834, ’15 miles from Swan Creek,’ where Charles lived. TN archivist said that it seemed that this Charles with that birth date was buried at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Reese’s Chapel Cemetery, Maury Co., in unmarked or absent tombstone, before the 1840 census. This is the Charles ALEXANDER whom I am seeking more information for: wife and children names. Charles had pension S-21599, no doubt. During visit above, Leonidas said that Charles lived in Giles Co., TN, until “18 months or so ago”. GRINAGE, GATES, BRADBERRY AND WOODRUM

I would like to communicate with anyone who knows of or may be researching Grinage ancestry. A number of Grinages relocated in Texas in the mid 1800’s who were born SOMEWHERE in Tennessee! Joshua Grinage married Margaret Woodrum in 1867, Edmond Grinnage married Nancy Bradberry in 1855 and Martha Grinnage married Thomas Gates in 1848. Joshua, Edmond and Martha were born in TN as well as most of their spouses according to censuses! All settled in Panola County, TX. A number of Woodrum families lived ‘next door’. Thanks so much!

SAWYERS, WILSON

Searching: Thomas Sawyers who was a native of Ireland, but came to America at an early date and settled in Virginia. He fought with the colonist in the Rev. war. He had a son John C. born in VA., probably Augusta. John C. married Narcissa Wilson in Tennessee. Narcissa’s father was John C. Wilson and her grandfather was Robin Wilson of Tennessee. Lincoln Co. was the home of John C. and Narcissa Sawyers until 1859. John C. Wilson was a soldier in the war of 1812, serving as Lieutenant of a foraging party during those troublesome times. My limited information states Robin Wilson was one of the pioneer settlers of Tennessee.

I’m looking for info on a William Rogers, who may have been in the Lincoln Co., TN, area in 1820. He was born 1790-1800 in Chester Co., SC. He was the son of Clayton and Betridge Sadler Rogers. His son, Jefferson C. Rogers, was born in 1820 somewhere in Tennessee. That’s about all I know of William. I’ve been told he had 14 children, four daughters and 10 sons. I am looking for any information on the ALLISON family which resided in Bedford county most of the 1800’s. My line is M.L. Allison(gggg-grandfather), Thomas Barnet Allison (ggg-grandfather), James Albert Allison (gg-grandfather), Tom Allison (g-grandfather), Earl Allison (grandfather), Bobby Allison (father), myself. I have no information prior to Thomas Barnet’s birth (July 9, 1830), except that his father was M.L. Allison. He was married to Mary E. Family history: In 1802, David Booker Shelton married Mary Elizabeth Hendricks in Georgia and moved to Lynchburg, Tenn. Children: Daughters Lousiana(1806) & Polly(1810), sons Leroy(1808)& James(March 1,1812). David Booker Shelton died in 1814. On Jan. 4, 1834, James Shelton(last child) married Mary Elizabeth Hendricks, about a 42nd cousin. Her father was Isaac Hendricks of Georgia, who moved to Tenn. from Georgia with the Shelton family. They lived near Lynchburg. Isaac Hendricks had 11 children and Mary Elizabeth was the fifth. She was born June 15, 1815. Ten years after arriving in Tennessee, the Hendricks moved to an area of Southern Tennessee known as the Western District. Any further info would be greatly appreciated.

Did you know that Daniel Smith Helton had two wives and 24 children? I have the names of 12 of those. His first wife’s name is unknown. As a decendent of Silas Helton thru Samuel Helton, thru Carl Helton, Sr., thru Alvin Helton, Sr. for most part you have the Silas Helton Genealogy correct. However, his first wife was Celina Frances. Marion Helton was married twice, first wife was Tennessee Johnson, married 1-25-1885, his second wife was Katie Tapp whom he married 12-24-1898. The children were Augustus born May 1887, Samuel, named after my ggrandfather, born April 1895, by Tennesse Johnson. Infant daughter, Nancy born May 1900, according to the 1900 cencus records. Family history: In 1802, David Booker Shelton married Mary Elizabeth Hendricks in Georgia and moved to Lynchburg, Tenn. Children: Daughters Lousiana(1806) & Polly(1810), sons Leroy(1808)& James(March 1,1812). David Booker Shelton died in 1814. On Jan. 4, 1834, James Shelton(last child) married Mary Elizabeth Hendricks, about a 42nd cousin. Her father was Isaac Hendricks of Georgia, who moved to Tenn. from Georgia with the Shelton family. They lived near Lynchburg. Isaac Hendricks had 11 children and Mary Elizabeth was the fifth. She was born June 15, 1815. Ten years after arriving in Tennessee, the Hendricks moved to an area of Southern Tennessee known as the Western District. Any further info would be greatly appreciated.

In 1865 in Lincoln Co. William A. WADE married Susanah A. BROWN. In the 1880 census they lived at Marble Hill in Moore Co. They had 8 children I think! Their names are: Cordelia WADE who married B. Forsythe, Leon WADE married Lillie E. __?__, George WADE married ___?____, Minnie WADE married G. McGill (in Giles Co. TN), William E. WADE married Liddia Whitt, Sallie WADE married ___?_____ and Ethel WADE married Silas Foust (in Giles Co. TN). They were still in Moore Co. on the 1900 census but they were in Giles Co. on the 1910 and 1920 census although William A. died in 1919. I am attempting to locate my paternal great grandparents. We use the name HANVY now, but it may have been slowly changed in the 1800’s from HANVEY. I was born in Maury County, April 25, 1960. My father was Jeff(nmn)Hanvy, my grandfather was John Jefferson Hanvy, my great grandfather was James Hanvy, and I believe my great,great grandfather was Chesbey Hanvy. I have found records that a James Hauvy (probably a mis-spelling)was married to Emma James in Maury County on Jan. 20 1876. I am advised by relatives that Emma James was his wife. I also have found records that a Chesbey Hanvey (spelling ?) was married to Margaret E. Warren in Lincoln County on May 16 1856. I am not sure about this one, but relatives tell me his name was Chesley or Chesbey. I am advised that they all may have lived in or around Lincoln, Bedford and Maury counties at various times. I’m trying to complete my STILES family geneology. John STILES was born in 1780 in Laurens County, South Carolina, married Margaret LYNCH in Warren County, North Carolina. She was born in Huntland, Franklin, Tennessee in 1790. She died in 1838. John STILES died in Lincoln County, Tennessee on November 3, 1825. They had Francis Seaborn STILES IN 1812.

I’m researching my Stiles Geneology. I’m looking for the parents of John Stiles, born in 1780, in Laurens County, South Carolina, married to Margaret Lynch in 1800. Margaret Lynch was born in 1790 in Huntland, Franklin, Tennessee. She died in 1838. Her parents were Aaron Lynch, born about 1750 and Polly born about 1752. John Stiles died in Lincoln County, Tenness on November 3, 1825. John Stiles and Margaret Lynch had Francis Seaborn Stiles in 1812 in South Carolina. He died November 5, 1874. He had Francis Newton STiles in 1838 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. Matilda was the mother of Francis Newton Stiles, Francis Seaborn Stiles wife. Francis Newton Stiles married Elizabeth Stiles. Then, he married Marina Floyd Thomas Stiles. Marina Floyd Thomas Stiles was the sister of Eliza Thomas, the wife of Jim Stiles, who was the borther of Francis(Frank) Newton Stiles. A Tennessee Historical Commission plaque “CARRIGER’S LANDING” now stands in the Hunter Community of Carter County documenting the CARRIGER family’s mark on early Carter County history. Gottfried and Anna Margaratha Anspach CARRIGER had the following children: Nicholas, Michael, John, Elizabeth, Godfrey, Jr. and Christian. Descendants later spread across the State of Tennessee. Grandchildren migrated into Green County, Illinois and Sonoma County, California.
