I have been in touch with some people who are doing research on their ancestors in Lincoln County, Tennessee, but I have not been able to come up with anything from any of them. My great, great grandfather who was a John Clark was supposedly born in Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1790. He married an Elizabeth Mackie who was born in 1798. I cannot find out anything about them or who their parents were. Where did they originate, etc.? I would very much appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks very much.

BOLIN – Seeking parents of Harvey BOLIN, born (probably Moore Co.) 1874; married Hulda Alma PIERCE in Moore Co., 1895. Two sons, Chester Carl and Dewey Hobson. In 1900, he is on the census of Moore Co. with his wife and sons. In August 1900, he killed a man, and then “disappears.” An Old Timer seemed to think that Harvey was the son of Will BOLIN – who may have been the son of Jeremiah BOLIN. There were several William BOLINs in Moore and surrounding counties. According to the Old Timer, Harvey went to his father’s house after the murder, hid out a few days, and then together they walked to Alabama. From there he may have gone to Texas or Oklahoma. We simply do not know what happened to him after the murder; and we have not been able to find any evidence whatsoever of Harvey’s parents, other than the Old Timer’s word. In 1880 census of Lincoln Co., there is a Harvey, age 7, who may be “my” Harvey, in the household of Pinkney Bolin. Pinkney and his wife are too old to be this child’s parents. No relationship is given in the census. Can anybody solve any of these mysteries?

Searching for information on the Joseph F. Webb family of Lincoln County. Joseph was born in 1839 in AL., probably Limestone county. He married in 1859 to Mary Ann McCowen (McCown). Her parents were Robert and Elizabeth. Both Robert and Elizabeth were from Ireland. Would like any information regarding Elizabeth’s maiden name. The were many Webb’s in Lincoln Cty, TN and Limestone Cty. However, I have not been able to link Joseph F. to any siblings or parents. It is possible that he had a brother named John Webb and possibly his mother or sister was a Mariah Webb. Mariah Webb was 15 years older than Joseph. She married a Philpot. They appear on the 1850 Lincoln Cty Census. Am trying to confirm if Mariah was his mother and if so who was Joseph’s father.

The book “Art & Mystery of Tennessee Furniture & It’s Makers Through 1850” by Derita Codeman Williams & Nathan Harsh states that GEORGE W. MOYERS of Fayetteville, TN had been quoted by the “Lincoln Journal, Oct 22, 1846” discussing the exhorbitant prices for undertaking. The book also has a great deal about GEORGE W. MOYERS of Grainger County who was an undertaker and cabinetmaker and whose brother-in-law was Fleming K. Rich of Wytheville, Virginia. This George’s father was Thomas Moyers of Wytheville. I have located information that would indicate that GEORGE W. MOYERS of Grainger Cty. remained there. If anyone can check the Lincoln Journal to determine if the name is correct it would help as PETER W. MOYERS was an undertaker/cabinetmaker in Fayetteville in the 1840s & 50s & 60s. Any information on any of the above individuals will be sincerely appreciated.

I am researching Hugheys in the Lincoln Co., TN area. My earliest ancestor is Alexander Hughey who married Mary Lavena Davis. I’m not sure when they were married, probably around 1823, and I’m not sure where they were married. I would like a record of their marriage. i would also like info on deeds which bear Alexander’s name. I believe his parents to be Henry and Mary (Cook) Hughey, but I have no proof of this. A deed with Henry’s name on it would certainly link the two men. I would like any Hughey info from this county.

Fielding Hurst, U.S.A.) or son, Chapman Hurst, or any other members of this family who may have served with the Confederacy. All I have is hearsay evidence from J.C. Hurst’s book HURSTS OF SHENANDOAH. I am also interested in who the parents of Mahalia Isom Smith (my great-grandather) and Ruthie Lydia Anthem Davis Smith (my great-grandmother) are and if their fathers might have served. Also Jacob Rowland (Roland?), who his father was and if he might have served.

MATTIE PHAMILIA SMITH b. 7-3-1863 either in Millville, TN, Lincoln Cty. or in Giles Cty. She married JAMES EMMETT MOYERS in Giles Cty. 4-8-1883 and lived for some years in Bunker Hill, Giles Cty., before moving to Texas. Is she the daughter of James Smith & Martha who lived near Pulaski? They were shown on 1870 census as having a daughter Mattie of the correct age for Mattie Phamilia. Any help on this will be greatly appreaciated as she was my grandmother.
