Young, Syrena B
Miss Syrena Brianne Young, 22, aka “Beans,” was born on September 18, 2000, in Fort Benning, Georgia, to Donna Young and Robert Young Jr. She passed away on January 1, 2023.
Syrena was a shining light and a true blessing from God from day one. To know Rena was to do nothing but love all of her personality, and if you knew her you have seen the depth of it all. She either messed with you or she didn’t.
She loved her Disney shows, Michael Jackson, loved to dance, sing, she even took over the stage at a school concert. She loved to listen to music and liked it loud. Only when passing the Police Department, we turned it down. She loved her sisters immensely, purposely drove them crazy, and would “rat” them out in a second flat. She never failed to put a smile on everyone’s face. She enjoyed visits from her Uncle Topy from Chicago, swimming at her papas, and Hammas, books, and granddaddy’s cooking. She would never fail to let you know exactly how she felt about things too; mostly in public at the most inappropriate time, but she always said sorry.
Although she had many favorites, Wendy Grimes Benningfield, “Miss Benny,” was her #1, followed by Brittany Runions and her “Coach Case.”
Rena loved her school as she made mom ride every night to drive by, always having to “beat the horn” and chant, “We are the Tigers- let’s go!” While Rena knew nothing of what the world’s opinions were she always made sure when she was in Columbia to stop and see Melvin to have McDonald’s with him.
She is survived by her mother and daddy, Donna Young and Erik Wright; father, Robert Young Jr.; sisters, Sylena Evonne Young (Sid Adams) and Sydney Young; brother, Brandon Drake Spears; aunts, Natalie Elizabeth Butler and Patricia Estes Mixtega; uncles, Jimmy Butler and Jamar Young; grandfather, Dean Butler; grandmothers, Lena Young and Marjorie Moore; and host of cousins, great aunts, uncles, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Yvonne Butler; maternal grandfather, Harold Shelton; and paternal grandfather, Rob Young Sr.
The funeral service was held Saturday, January 7, at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with Robin Jackson officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers were Andrew Hay, Scotty Beach, and Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
The care of Miss Syrena Young and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Williams Funeral Home.
