Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. February 1, 2010 in the McDonald Funeral Home chapel with Bobby Carroll, minister of Pineview Church of Christ, officiating. Burial took place February 2, 2010 in the Valhalla Memory Gardens in Huntsville, Alabama.\u00a0 Mr. Monroe was born May 16, 1923 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky to the late Nathan B. Monroe and Nannie Key Monroe. He was a retired First Sergeant in the United States Army.\u00a0 Survivors include four sons, Michael W. Monroe of Scottsboro, Alabama, Patrick L. Monroe of Peoria, Illinois, Howard E. Monroe of Huntland and Danny L. Monroe of Huntsville, Alabama; one daughter, Linda K. Shirley of Hohenwald; one brother, Nathan Monroe of Carmichael, California; two sisters, Minnie Maurice of Hemet, California and Mary C. Hilberger of Yucaipa, California; 15 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.\u00a0 In addition to his parents, Mr. Monroe was preceded in death by a son Ted R. Monroe, his first wife, Elsie Lee Olds Monroe and second wife, Esther Thurlene Biers Monroe.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>William Abraham Monroe,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 William Abraham Monroe, 86, died January 24, 2010 at his home.
