She was born in Limestone, Alabama on July 20,1926 to the late William \u201cBill\u201d and Georgia (Greene) Sublett.\u00a0 Along with her parents Mrs. Dorning was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Mr. Richard Dorning and two brothers William Sublett and Wayne Sublett.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Doris and Richard were very active members of Lewis County. They owned several businesses including a grocery store, Dorning Realty, a large egg production business, and cattle and soybean farming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mrs. Dorning completed a laboratory technology course and became a pink lady at the hospital. Later she became a real estate agent. She was also a Farm Bureau board member, Sunday School teacher, and participated in many activities in the community. Hard work was her true joy. She loved gardening, working on the farm, reading, writing stories and songs, cooking wonderful food, sewing and, riding horses with Richard. She enjoyed most of all caring for her family, friends, church members and spreading her vibrant personality. Her family always came first.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mrs. Dorning is survived by her daughter Judy Mercer; a son Larry (Mary) Dorning; grandson Joshua (Kelly) Mercer; great granddaughters Madelyn and Elizabeth \u201cEllie\u201d Mercer; and siblings Kenneth (Katie) Sublett, Harold (Janice) Sublett, June (Barry) Estes and Carolyn Duncan. She also leaves behind a son of the heart, Jerry Mercer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday January 28,2020 from 09:00-11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 am.
