Given to Sammye Lawson on March 28, 2002.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;Grinder&#8217;s Creek School House Burned&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">December 18, 1912<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Caught in Roof While School Was In Session<\/p>\n<p>The school house on Grinder&#8217;s Creek was burned Wednesday morning. The fire started in the roof and interrupted the school in the midst of the spelling class recitation.<\/p>\n<p>The teacher and pupils went to work with a will to save the school furniture and all the desks were carried out before the roof fell in.<\/p>\n<p>The building was an old-time log house, but it had been fitted up with modern desk seats.<\/p>\n<p>The teacher, Sam Daniel, came to Hohenwald on the afternoon train, but will return in a few days to reopen school.
