He was born in Pleasantville, TN on August 30, 1942 to the late Walter &amp; Mary Lou (Wiggs) Thompson. He married the love of his life Sandra (Sharp) on December 21, 1963. They had just celebrated 56 years of marriage. Together they share a daughter Sherri [also known as Crissy.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was an independent salesman, working for many companies throughout his life. He enjoyed camping and fishing, many memories were made with his friends Charles Dye, Terry Cherry and Elmer Adair along with many other friends. He loved sports in general, supporting the LA Dodgers and Tennessee Vols. He was a part of the &#8220;Rocky Top Ramblers&#8221; which consisted of 14 motor homes, who rambled everywhere supporting their Tennessee Vols. Walt&#8217;s wishes were to be rolled out of the funeral home with Rocky Top playing in the background, and so his wishes will be honored on Sunday.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Walt was commonly mistaken throughout the state and country as Conway Twitty.\u00a0 People would often approach him and ask him for his autograph, when he would sign &#8220;Walt Thompson&#8221; people would walk away disappointed or would often ask why he signed that name. It&#8217;s told that his friends especially Yogi didn&#8217;t make the situation any better often calling him Conway in public. People in Hohenwald would often brag about seeing &#8220;Conway&#8221; in Hohenwald, only to be told it was Sandra&#8217;s husband Walt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He was also known to have a heart of gold, wanting to help anybody and everybody regardless of their situation he wanted to help anybody in need. He was a member of the Lomax Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and oversaw the benevolence. He was also a big supporter of MidSouth Youth Camp, where he volunteered yearly helping with the fish fry, he always said he was the only one who knew how to mix the fish meal. In the recent years he pulled some of the young men together from the Lomax Church and taught them how to &#8220;properly&#8221; mix the meal, telling them he wouldn&#8217;t always be around.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The family has asked that in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund, a calling and organization that is very near and dear to his and Sandra&#8217;s heart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Survivors include:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Wife of 56 years: Sandra Thompson<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Daughter: Sherri (Crissy) and husband Eric Samide of Franklin, TN<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sisters: Mary Ann Carter &amp; Marla Thompson<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">2 Grandchildren: Matt &amp; Andrew<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Soon to Be Daughter In Law: Britton<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Services will be held on Sunday, 12 January 2020, beginning at 3:00 PM, at the McDonald Funeral Home &#8211; Hohenwald with Donnie Debord officiating.\u00a0 Other participants will include Yogi Spears and Donald Duncan.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Visitation with the family will be held the same day beginning at 12:00 PM and continuing until service time.
