{"id":14677,"date":"2026-05-12T09:28:36","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T13:28:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/lewis\/?p=14677"},"modified":"2026-05-12T09:28:36","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T13:28:36","slug":"harney-leonard-tilton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/lewis\/harney-leonard-tilton\/","title":{"rendered":"Harney, Leonard Tilton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Leonard Tilton Harney Jr., born July 10, 1938, in Paris, Kentucky, to Leonard \u201cDutch\u201d Harney Sr. and Mildred Lee Creecy Harney, passed away on April 26, 2026, at his home in Centerville, Tennessee, surrounded by those who loved him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Carawan; his brother, Williby Lee Harney; and his grandson, Chad Harney.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Teresa Tune Atkinson Harney, whom he married in the chapel at Camp Maribah, officiated by Brother Bill McDonald. Together, they made their home in Centerville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his daughter, Cheryl Shafor; granddaughter, Breanna Rutherford; and great-grandchildren, Luke, Liam, Levi, and Bryce.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He is further survived by his stepchildren, Teena, James, and Richard; step-grandchildren, Ethan, Jordan, Grayson, and Avery; and step-great-grandchildren, Jackson, Hadleigh, and Brinley. He also leaves behind a special niece, Lee Anne Smith, and a devoted caregiver, Mandy Davis; nieces Donna Shelby, Cynthia Roban, Gail Cavender, LeeAnne Andrews, and nephew William Chuck Carawan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Leonard proudly served 22 years in the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of E-9 Master Chief. Following his military service, he worked at Sisco, where he retired after more than 20 years as a Night Supervisor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He loved his family deeply and will be remembered for his dedication and strength.
