Raised with the values of hard work, faith, and humility, Jack carried the lessons of his humble beginnings with him throughout his life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A gifted student and talented athlete, Jack attended Hickman County High School, where he was a proud member of the Class of 1961. He excelled both academically and athletically, playing on memorable football and basketball teams that remained a cherished part of his youth. Following high school, Jack attended Vanderbilt University before answering the call to serve his country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Jack proudly joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam during his service. His military career was a source of deep pride, reflecting his strong sense of duty and patriotism. After his honorable discharge, he continued his education at Tennessee Technological University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Professionally, Jack found his calling in horticulture. He owned and operated a nursery in Nashville, dedicating his life\u2019s work to cultivating beauty through plants and flowers. His knowledge, care, and love for growing things were evident not only in his business but also in the stunning flower gardens he personally tended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A longtime and faithful member of the Church of Christ, Jack\u2019s faith was an important foundation throughout his life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Jack had many interests that brought him joy and connection with others. He loved entertaining friends and family with his guitar, fishing\u2014especially in the Duck River\u2014working in his gardens, and challenging himself with crossword puzzles. His vibrant personality, generous spirit, and genuine warmth will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He is survived by his brother, Ellis Walker Totty; his nephews, Steven (Michele) Totty and Kevin (Terri) Totty; many cousins; and his longtime best friend, Ronald McGhee. He was preceded in death by his parents and is lovingly remembered in connection with his late companion, Alice McGhee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Jack received devoted medical care for several months through the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville, and his family is grateful for the compassion shown to him during that time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A Celebration of Life and Visitation will be held at McDonald Funeral Home &#8211; Hickman County on Monday, February 16, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Totty\u2019s Bend Church of Christ Cemetery, Duck River, TN.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Jack\u2019s life was one of quiet strength, steady faith, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for the simple blessings of family, friendship, and the natural beauty he so lovingly cultivated.
