Born on August 10, 1932, in Paris, Tennessee, to Ella Mae and Robert Moody, she was the 8th of 9 children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She loved her family and was a devoted sister and daughter. Mildred was a gifted student and graduated as Valedictorian of her high school. She attended Toler Business College in her hometown and later moved to Wyandotte, Michigan, to be near her sisters and brother.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She was a devoted Christian who lived her faith and inspired others with her grace and loving spirit. She attended church in Wyandotte and met the love of her life, Delbert Ray Carroll. The couple married on October 29, 1953. He made her laugh a lot, and their union was a fun and Christ-centered one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Delbert decided to become a chiropractor, and together they accomplished this journey, which included buying a dry cleaning business, which she ran while he went to school. Together they sacrificed and achieved his degree. They began a practice that led them to move to Newton, NC, in 1959. Here they built their business, raised their family, and were devoted to the Hickory Church of Christ. They had 35 loving years together until Delbert passed in 1989.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mildred worked hard after Delbert\u2019s passing to sell his business, and she continued to work with the new chiropractor for 15 more years. She was treasured in this role for her knowledge and wisdom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mildred was deeply fond of her family and found her greatest joy in her role as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She moved to the Raleigh area in 2010 to be near them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She attended all their events and graduations and loved being a part of their lives. Mildred\u2019s faith in Christ was the foundation of her life, and she worshipped alongside her family at Brooks Ave. Church of Christ. She was a righteous woman who loved to laugh, to crochet, and to keep immaculate books \u2013 her sharp mathematical mind always shining through.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">She is survived by her daughter Linda Powell and husband Dan Powell; her grandchildren Christi Cabrera ( Joel), Eric Powell (Kate), Nicole Sullivan (Daniel), Carlee Turner ( Simon); and her great grandchildren, Noah, Amelina, Naia and Isla Cabrera, Will, Gray and Emerson Powell, Naomi Sullivan, and Pio Turner with one more on the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Delbert Carroll, her son Kenneth Carroll, and her siblings Irene, Estelle, Velma, Verner, John David, Charlotte, Paul, and baby Robert Timothy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A Celebration of Life will be held at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh, NC, on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 11:00 am.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Graveside services will be held on December 8, 2025, at Swiss Cemetery, Hohenwald, TN, where Mildred will be laid to rest beside her late husband and son.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">McDonald Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Carroll family.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mildred Freeland Moody Carroll, 93, passed away peacefully in her daughter\u2019s home on November 21, 2025.
