{"id":14294,"date":"2025-11-01T18:00:04","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T22:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/lewis\/?p=14294"},"modified":"2025-11-01T18:00:38","modified_gmt":"2025-11-01T22:00:38","slug":"barnett-william-leon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/lewis\/barnett-william-leon\/","title":{"rendered":"Barnett, William Leon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">William &#8220;Will&#8221; Leon Barnett, age 64, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, with his loving wife, Kim, by his side.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-container w75 storyimage_centeralign\">\n<div class=\"imageDiv\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Born on June 19, 1961, in Maury County, Will was the son of the late Lester Eugene &#8220;Gene&#8221; Barnett and Mary Evelyn Poore Barnett. He spent his entire life in Hohenwald, where he built deep roots, lasting friendships, and countless memories.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Will proudly served his country as a medic in the Army National Guard following high school. He later retired after 27 years of service as a correctional officer at Only Prison. After retiring, he faced ongoing health challenges with quiet strength and humor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Will was married to the love of his life, Kim Odom Barnett, for 33 wonderful years. He was also the proud father of Joshua William Barnett from a previous marriage, Together, Will and Kim created a home filled with laughter, creativity, and love.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Will was known for his one-of-a-kind sense of humor and knack for making others laugh. He loved building &#8220;contraptions&#8221; with his son, nieces, and nephews, never quite knowing what they would turn out to be, only that fun and laughter were guaranteed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A lifelong knife enthusiast, Will collected blades of all kinds. In the early years, when money was tight, Kim would suggest buying him a new shirt, and he&#8217;d joke, &#8220;Well, I&#8217;ve been looking at this knife&#8230;&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Will cherished time with family, playing cards and games, cutting up , and enjoying simple moments together. His life was a reminder that joy doesn&#8217;t come from possessions but from stories shared, laughter around the table, and love freely given.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Evelyn Barnett, and his sister Janice Barnett.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Will is survived by his wife, Kim Odom Barnett; his son, Joshua William Barnett; sisters, Mary Barnett Gatlin and Stephanie Barnett; brother, Stephen Barnett; along with several beloved nieces and nephews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah&#8217;s Witnesses, 2534 TN-48, Nunnelly.
